This is on my 1980 7020 powershift. some times in high range other times in lo range the tractor starts to back up and then it stops moving. we have a slight hill to back up to our shop and it would do it with just the tractor but then I hooked up a 3 point 4 row cultivator and it ran out of steam mid way up the little hill ( probably a 3-4 foot elevation change in 140-50 feet) the tractor has all forward speeds going up the same hill and I didn't notice any slipping in the 2 hours I ran the 16 foot digger on it or the 3 hours I was planting with it. other times I put the range selector into range and then shift the speed lever into reverse let the clutch out and the tractor goes nowhere, push clutch in put speed lever in neutral let clutch out count to ten push clutch in shift speed lever into reverse let clutch out and it goes. sometimes I have to do that two or three times and then it grabs other times it grabs for a dozen times in a row, does it all rpms with both hot or cold oil it kinda has me stumped

Let's do some deeper diagnosis on this. To start with, when you shift out of PARK, always shift it into HIGH first and then into LOW range. This insures that the range transmission is actually engaged and into the LOW range gear. When in neutral and with your foot off of the inching pedal, you should be able to pull the PST lever from neutral into reverse and it should engage and pull the engine down momentarily each and every time you do that. How many hrs are on this tractor ??  The transmission oil level is FULL ?? and where are you checking it?? Does the 1800 RPM light on the dash work?? It should come on whenever you turn on the key switch. Reverse gear takes a lot of HP to turn all the gears. You say running out of power?? are you stalling the engine???

is the trans oil the dipstick under the seat in the cab? and if so it is at the full mark. this tractor had 4612hrs when I bought it now it has 4620hrs and I believe that is original judging by the hitch and overall ware on the machine. when I turn the key the dash lights light up then go out during cranking and the engine oil light goes out about 4-5 seconds after the engine gets going then there is no lights lit up on the dash. The engine doesn't run out of power but the tractor slows to a stop and feels like I am bringing a hydrostatic lawn mower from forward back down to neutral.

is there a separate compartment for the hydraulic system like on there is on a 190xt? I can only find the a dipstick cap under the seat and a bigger plug cap on the back by the top link of the hitch and then the two glass bubbles on the side

Does the inching pedal come all the way 100% to the top of it's stroke ?? A broken spring inside the instrument panel may keep that from happening and unless the pedal is 100% fully "UP" the trans might slip in reverse.

I will have to go see if I can push it up anymore also this tractor had a 12 foot snow plow on it before I bought it so I figure it had a lot of time going back and forth

I would say teeth on clutch disc, on two center clutch packs are getting worn to where they bind on hub splines. One of the two are used in every speed. It usually shows up most in R 1 3.        MACK
