I just got all my boxes mounted and all my tools in the old Ford. I drove it to work all last week. All went well. Drove to work this morning no problem. Went to lunch and the starter wouldn’t work after lunch. This starter isn’t a week old. The last one wasn’t a week old when it quit. Both under a lifetime Warranty. I bench tested this one and it just spins and doesn’t even try to kick in the Bendix. I pulled the cover and saw cheap junk.
I’ve been through the same with fuel pumps from Oreilly. The first two were cheap junk with very weak springs the third appeared much better built and a much heavier spring. Same brand but better box and pump but same part number. Wondering if I should switch brands / store for the next starter. It’s hard to go buy a different one with this one under warranty.
And my GMC is broke down with a bad master cylinder that only lasted 400000 miles.

If it is from Oreilly's ask for a refund and go to someone different. We normally have good luck with the Napa new starters and alternators.

If the starter isn't a ba$tard to switch, keep taking them back until you get a good one.  I had that problem with the starter I got from PepBoys about 25 years ago for my Ramcharger.  I'd just keep taking them back and putting it up on the counter with my original "lifetime Warranty" receipt and getting another one. After one lasted more than 6 months. I just took another bad Dodge starter I had laying around for a "shelf" unit and that good one was still in the Ramcharger when it died of rust.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

the starter is from Napa. They sold a while back so I prefer Oreilly’s but the new Napa guys are starting to learn how small towns work.

That’s kind of what I’m thinking and if I go to Oreilly the lifetime starter is $90.00 plus core and I don’t want to give up a warranted starter.

Sorry for all your troubles buddy.  I guess then you don't want to hear mine,,,,,,and it'd take the better part of an hour anyway.
Yeah, just keep changing it unless it's a real beech, then I'd want a good one.  I hate changin stuff, specially when you have to move all kinds of other stuff out of the way.
Good Luck...

If ya don't have another junk one around, get a junk one from the junkyard (need only some parts off of it to do some other project excuse) for a core price. Then clean it up good and pull the PaulB scenario. Wink Then ya have an extra along with you.

trying. Junk yard not open when I’m not at work. Soon I’ll get a junk yard starter as a spare. Hopefully a factory Ford

Drove to town with no brakes. One 6% grade on the way and two on the way home. 4 low down hill and lots of pissed off people. I pulled over every chance I could. Laced in 6” of flood water to install the new starter and at work 45 minutes from home by 9:00 am.👍
I’ll start on the GMC tonight.
