I have a 1954 Allis Chalmers WD45 and I have a oil leak where the governor tod goes in side the housing. Any idea what it will take to fix this? ? I was wondering if any one knows how I can fix it? ? Please see pictures  |

| There is an oil seal that is shot. There is a brass bushing that is worn out and loose. And the lever/shaft probably has a worn groove in it. Remove hood and radiator to repair. |

Aaron, I did replace that seal and bushing on the governor cross shaft on one of the WD tractors. Made a special puller to slide hammer the bushing out of the tube. Did have the entire front timing cover off at that time. May have had to hone it a little due to pressing the bushing back in??? There may have pictures somewhere on here?? I have never had that apart I have only owned the tractor for 3 months. I just might live with the oil leak sounds like a lot of work to do it the proper way by taking it apart. Thank you for your help guys.. I just had the hood and radiator out to be recore too lol now it is all back together and I see the oil leak. |

That's not going to get you far in life. Do you think it is going to get better by ignoring it? You bought a tractor, now you have to grow up and fix it. With the wear I see in the governor arm, an oil leak is probably the least concern. When the weights let go inside, you'll have to pull the front cover off to replace the cam gear, so you might as well wait till then to fix the leak. This is an issue I have planned to confront when, (and if), I overhaul another 45 engine. I may go through a timing cover and have it ready to go, will document the process with pictures on here. The engine I rebuilt for my NF 45 has a small leak from the left side governor shaft. I would like to fix it but due to the difficulty of changing the cover, going to live with it.
