| Was on another site and they were talking about the road tractor market trucks being so cheap, I didnt see too many good deals , but maybe Im not on the right places, where is good sites ? |

Since the coronavirus started,,I've seen a LOT of 18 wheeler tractors for sale on the MarketPlace section of Facebook,,,pretty much every town has the marketplace on Facebook ,,so you might look there,,, Also the big 300 amp lincolns and Miller welders,,LOTs of those as well as the welding beds. I expect the welding trks will show up later,,,,,Thats just too dang bad for those unfortunate workers,,,!!!!! I know one of the VP's with harbor freight at the main office in Calif. and I'm gonna call him and tell him he best find another job as, I think when the dust clears with this friggin covid19 thing,,a whole lot of people are going to rebel against all things chinese. A friend of mine that lives in the Alien City was telling me just this morning that there was an altercation at the HF store by a very irate person wanting to speak out against all the chinese products in the store,,,!!

| alot of the old semi tractors are coming out of the trees and being re-built for road use again. i'm seeing alot more old cab-overs on the road again. and there are some companies that send guys/gals out to source the older pre- computered tractors for their businesses. i know of 2 large trucking companies that are doing this now. one has over a 1000 brand new older trucks in storage until they are needed to be switched out on trucks they are running now. |

I saw an ad here on Kijiji ( CDN version of Cl) and a 2009 semi ( FreightLiner) was only 16K ! The high cost of pickups is why I went looking for a "REAL" truck to pull my trailer a couple of years ago. I found a nearly identical 79 Astro to one that I had back in the 80s for less than I paid for a new 3/4 ton that I ordered to my specs in 75. Nearly 70 grand for a prissy daddy's pwretty widdle truck today is ridiculous, I din't pay anything close to 70 grand for a new road tractor in 86. With the stability and safety of pulling a trailer with a REAL truck, I'll never go back to a pickup. The newer pickups do have nice power. although stability and stopping when loaded leaves a lot to be desired. Of coarse in the big truck market everyone wants a Peterbuilt. From my 45+ years of driving nearly everything that's out there, I don't want one, I like the visibility of the Astro. As for the ride, my Astro has a NewWay rear suspension and CabMate air ride on the cab, so it isn't too bad. The Freightliner that I was driving before I retired, rode far better than the Petercraps in the fleet, and it would out pull them on the mountains as well.
The bargains in the big truck are out there and sometimes take a bit of searching. A few years ago there was a huge "scrapping out" of older trucks and finding older units is not so easy. ------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

| Class seven and up trucks are very prevalent in the market right now, prices have been high as the demand was good for turnover not so much now. Suspect the downturn will continue in the short term where IF can afford to buy one and sit back awhile, the prices will again recover in the last quarter of the year as life returns to some amount of normal. |

I drove an Astro for a while moving a guys heavy equipment around and they are nice! I want a crackerbox jimmy!! Fell in love with them the first time I drove one! 6-71 Detroit and straight pipe! ----SUPER TRUCK! lol!! Last ones I drove were Kenworth W-900-extended hoods with N-14 engines and 10-speed roadrangers in them. Love them! I drove the last 10-speed they had til they went to all automatics, and the day my truck got traded,--I quit and never went back--I am NOT driving a stupid automatic in a semi----it's stupid! As for the older trucks,--they are going to ban anything over 3 years old in the near future from being on the roads, so thats why guys are dumping them now! AC fleet I have W900 with an 18 autoshift. That is the one with a clutch. I love it , I am not as tired at the end of the day. You can still maintain control over shifts by going to manual mode and just push a button to shift gears. I caught a lot of flack when I first got it from other drivers . I don't care it delivers smooth shifts and impossible to grind gears so gears last a long long time when there are no missed shifts or grinding into gear when stopped. | yes but what about maintenance costs? Tires brakes oil changes etc. not to mention the tools to work on them are all bigger. |

| the only semi tractor i ever owned was an old military semi, stub nose IH, it was older but only had 2000 sum miles on it when i bought it. used it around here a couple years then one day a dude stopped in and wanted to give me 8-1/2 times more money than i paid for it. he drove it home! |

Allis G guy:Yep tires cost more and last very much longer. Oil changes are good for 10,000 plus miles and with synthetic oils and proper monitoring, 75,000 is possible. I've had brakes last for 100,000 miles. I've known those with P/Ups pulling trailers to need brakes every 20.000 miles. Now some of the newer big truck engines are getting astounding fuel mileage, compared to only a few years ago. As for fuel mileage in P/Ups in the real world, they seem to be getting worse ever year, contrary to the manufacturers advertising. You should also know by now with an Allis G you have half a tractor that nearly everything for it costs at least twice as much. ------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
