i have noticed that in alot of pictures i have seen some tractors have land handler or crop hustler on the side panels. what would be the difference between those or a regular(without those decals) be ? i have a 1967 190 XT and a 1973 185 both have been repainted years ago and could stand another repaint ,i would like to put the right decals on these . does the year or model determine if it is or isnt ? can someone shed some light? again thanks for the help in advance ....Jb

I think all the 175 and 185's were Crop Hustlers and the later 190's 210 and 220's were Land Handlers. Hope this helps a little.

jb,
I think the 1970 and up  were landhandlers, on the 180 190 210 220. Not all 175 185s were crop hustlers. Dad bought a 185 new in 76. it wasnt a crop hustler. I do think your 73 would be. It says in one of my books the landhandler went on the 220 in May 1970,havent found the 175 and185 yet but will keep looking

I think those names were just marketing tools.  I like them but I don't think there was any difference.

The 170's prior serial 170-7500 were "landhandler" at least the decals were offered for it, I believe only the diesel tractors were given this designation. 175 Diesel was " crop hustler" not sure what serial number range they were designated. I do not think 175 Gas machine got the "crop hustler" name. My late 1974 175G is not a crop hustler. In 1969 AC developed the "crop-hustler plan" which was the idea of light weight machine with high HP, pulling at higher speeds. The plan sesulted in the 175/185 machines. I have a 71' 185 brochure w/ crop-hustler, 73' 185 brochure w/ NO crop-hustler, and a 77' 185 w/ crop-hustler, so maybe one of the brochures was photographed with wrong decals?

Chris, lot of those brochures were pics from what ever they had on hand just different arrangements and maybe a few new ones added to make it more interesting, I think...
Like Claus said, names were "marketing tools".

Your XT is not a Landhandler model being a 1967 that is for sure.  Your 185 is gonna be a tough question to answer because I don't think there is any documention of serial numbers saying for sure yes or no when the Crop Hustler decals were phased out.  My best guess is that it would have been in early 1973 when the 200 went to the what they called the cost reduction model, with that the 200's lost the stripes under the "200" in the decal.  At this time I think A-C would have removed the stripes from the 175 and 185 in order to keep the apperance the same on all the models which would have eliminated the Crop Hustler decal also at the same time.  For what it's worth, there is a 1973 185 serial number 4200-something, on tractorhouse right now without the stripes and Crop Hustler decals.  Looks like orginal paint to me other than the grill has been painted maybe, so if your 185 is after 4200 I would say it never had the Crop Hustler decals.

BTW "Marketing Tool" is fancy words for Jedi Mind Tricks.

There was also the "Tobacco special", but that WAS a specially modified tractor for tobacco. Higher clearence and closer wheels for the rows.

i really want to thank you all for all of the replies .. now another question, where should the XT decal go on the 67 190? right now its on the rear side panel  under allis chalmers i have also seen the on the front side panel . its alot of work repainting and i just want to be sure to put them in the right place. my dad has owned this tractor for about 33 years and its the first tractor i ever drove so i want it to be exactly the way it should be when we restore it , im going to have it for a while ,thanks again....Jb
