Folks, Keeping low profile with the CV-19 issue, but visited with Matt today in his shop as he applied some John Deere green enamel paint to his H. I think he did a good job for his first paint job.    His shop is warm and he is going to let is set for several days prior to assembly. Nice to see a young man working on tractors of various makes and colors. At first I was thinking you where talking about me. Im also working on a JD H. Came in the shop to get the fuel system cleaned out and running so it could go to Mecum last November. It was stuck with the cylinders 1/2 full of antifreeze. It now has a completely rebuilt engine, Just got the Governor finished. Hope he doesn't need any governor parts as they are almost non existent. Good morning. Chris, good to see the progress that Matt is doing. He appears to be comfortable in that environment. Good looking shop with lots of room to move around in. I noticed that there is hope for the survival of A C, as the 'birthday' section today shows five Forum members with an average age of 43. Great. Please discuss with Matt the problems with using concrete (cinder, or ----) blocks as vertical stands. Fortunately if the blocks split in this application, the tractor front end would only drop until the front axle assy. hits the concrete floor. By the way, I missed your 2020 Maple Syrup production details. Such an unusual Winter/Spring. I hope it turned out O.K. for you. Ross. |

yes cement blocks are never a good idea and if you used them he has them in the wrong position and they will crush much much easier. | I agree on the blocks...,,in this situation, there isn’t a whole lot of weight there, and it would only fall to the front axle. He’s got the rear propped up properly, so maybe he already knows. No point in finding the max weight by surprise though. |

Guys, Thank you for all the feedback. I saw Matt this morning as I had to pick up my buzz rig. I told him he would get scolded about the blocks. Most of us have done things like this. We only learn from others or from our mistakes. We just dont want those mistakes to be accidents. Matt has many Farmalls, one AC, couple Fords, a Case, and this green thing. He likes them all and is very good keeping them serviced and in working order. His shop is awesome! 80 x 36. 20 foot ceilings. Big air compressor, two lathes, welder, torches, and most tools needed. Very comfortable, heated, and big windows for light and vent in summer. He is the maintenance person for the entire building. This is just one bay of a vast warehouse that has many small business inside its walls. He is working on making a skid for his Detroit Diesel 471 power plant engine that he brought home last fall. I dont know what the barrels are for. There was a lot of stuff in the room when he moved in. He has some 60 inch micrometers that were left behind. Syrup season was good! We made 184 gallons of syrup from 8200 gallons of sap. about 700 taps when all done. Boiled 19 times and made 100 gallons of Golden Delicate syrup! Getting ready to cut wood and fill the wood shed with slabs.
