They're going to try "digital learning days" for the first time in Cherokee county starting Monday. Might actually be a blessing in disguise because it's just in time to finish up 3 chicken houses and get birds in them so I'll have some extra hands between my wife, daughters, and my mother.

My granddaughter has been "home schooling" since the first of the year. E study with the computer somehow or another. I guess it was a good time to get away from the crowds.

Well,,New Mexico is closing all schools for 3 weeks starting Monday. I know lots of people are questioning the reasoning, but ,,it better to limit the number of potential contacts than to treat children and the people they might infect in hospitals,,,??

Counties around here, all schools closed until April 14th. So that means grampa (me) gets sidetracked for a month... oh well, more time to influence my twin 6-year-old grandsons. Heck, they already want to be like grampa, not like deadbeat dad/ex-son-in-law, so I'll relish in that and teach them THE GOOD STUFF. Big daddy dirtbag already said he doesn't want to take them except maybe on weekends. I'll have to put all my projects on indefinite hold and probably kiss the rest of this year's sugaring season goodbye, but it's sacrifice time and so worth shaping the NEXT "next" generation. Lord knows this LAST bunch didn't listen!!!

Tim, 6 year olds are needing that influence. Enjoy the time. My granddaughter is 14 now, and seems to be beyond my influence, sadly. She learned way to much from her dead beat dad, the x son in law

Go for it Tim. I don't know what all it takes to do you "sugar gathering" but taking 6 year old's along is a good thing if you can keep them safe.
Yes close everything for a month over nothing and then declare how successful they were. But here schools are all over on how long they will stay closed, everything from 2 weeks to 2 months.
Be a good thing if "learn by computer" works at the college level. Sent 1/2 or more of the worthless professes home for all time.

Becoming a firm believer in Home School these days. A Stay At Home Mama and a once in awhile Papa can teach a lot more and Better than the hypocrites trying to brainwash kids and press Common Core so they do not have to work as hard. Plus they can teach essentially At Will and any number of days snow, no snow, rain excess heat etc. all the while pushing the children to outdoors activities and EXERCISE.

I have a Better thought, since No Need to Drive or bike to schools buildings, do Not have to Dress for the occasion, do Not have to expend money for grab and go lunch or investing Hours an Hours pouring over paperwork, pay these Shiets what they are really worth, a Dollar a Head for each student per day(Less Taxes, Insurance, Computer fees for proprietary instruction, and retirement savings if they want any). Unless can break an exorbitant number of On Line class they should be able to cross from poor to not so poor.

I appreciate all that, gents. I am actually looking forward to it, I hope they are as well.
Boy, more than anything I'd love to take them WITH ME instead of staying at their home with them. Not enough there to keep them from losing interest. BUT... they were born 3 months premature, and the one boy has no complications of any sort. The other little guy wouldn't have any, either, IF the doctors had done right... the doctors detected "a medical emergency" **no explanation for that at all EVER** and thought it was the second one, so they pushed the first one aside to deliver the second one first and - it was the first one with the medical emergency. Very long complicated tear-filled story short, due to the injuries he sustained from being "pushed aside" (certainly not a medical term I ever heard!), AND from being slightly oxygen-deprived for a short period of time, he suffers from hydrocephalus, has a shunt from a hole in his skull, under the skin to his abdomen where the shut drains excess brain fluid away from the brain. He is brilliant, perhaps the most brilliant person I've ever known, I believe because all he can do is take in information and try to figure out ways to overcome. His body is strong and healthy. But due to the injuries at birth and the resultant hydrocephalus, the communication between brain and body is incomplete at best. He and I have been able to communicate perfectly well with each other ever since he was in NICU. Anyways every aspect is a very long story in itself... No one else seems to understand the boy! He's ASTONISHINGLY SMART! He is the most unbelievable overcomer I've ever seen in my entire life. He cannot walk unless I'm supporting him. His left arm and hand are 90% paralyzed. He has only a few words that he can speak. All these things are because the brain is sending signals, but those parts of his body are not receiving them. But like I said, he and I can carry on long conversations with our own form of "sign language." It breaks my heart to watch him when he's in his wheelchair and looking out the window at the other children running and playing. The look of joy and wonder in his eyes, his face, watching and dreaming, and then to see him turn and look at his legs, then he looks away and that joy and wonder turns to - I don't know, defeat, giving up... I honestly cannot bear it to see him that way. So, as often as I'm able to be around at those times, I head off that downturn and shout, "HEY! How about you and me going out and playing with those guys?!?!" He just goes bonkers with laughing and gets tears of joy. And yeah, gratitude. He knows that grampa knows. What else are grampas for?
They are both the sweetest souls I've ever known, or heard of. Absolute little geniuses. Sponges for learning. I enthusiastically encourage them in every good thing they do. I want to include them in everything "I" do... But, at this point in our journey, taking them BOTH with me is not possible. Not for much in terms of outdoor activities, anyhow. YET...

I do think all this panic closing will slow the virus down, but what will all these kids do.......nearly all will find a new place to congregate and continue the spread, no it won't be the library, no it won't be the workplace, but it WILL be the Chucky Cheeses, the McDonalds, the other businesses that kids always want to go to so they can hang out with their friends, and the parents will be so tired of them, they will say, absolutely please leave the house.

schools closed here, the parents were told to come to the school to pick up the childs laptops and homework, said the kids can do their work on line....cept a lot of folks around here don't have internet at their homes!

My wife has the same problem. A lot of her students don't have the internet and she had to make copies of the work to send home. She has to be on some program from 9am to at least 1030 everyday to answer any questions "face to face" and has to be available by email from 8am to 5pm. Not the worst thing in the world but I imagine it's hard to explain things to some that way. A lot of her kids are Spanish speaking to and some of those households don't put much if any stock in education which makes it that much more difficult.

Thad this is different under 10 is home free with this from what I see. All the way to 20 is good unless you have lot of other troubles. Before children have always been one of the harder hit groups, along with the old.

I heard this is largely because a high percentage of the at risk age men in china also smoke, which increases your risk significantly since its a respiratory disease. The women do not smoke as often.

Remote education can be both good and bad for different families. Some have many children, and not every kid has a device to use for online education. It’s especially the case with families with lower income. I know a family that http://https://fosterplus.org" rel="nofollow - raises three foster kids in their house , and this COVID crisis has been extremely difficult for them because it was very hard to take care of all the kids at once. In a normal regime, some kids were in school or daycare most of the day. But corona made them all stay indoors, and it was a really hard time for parents.

This is ridiculous shutting down our country while leaving the border wide open to third, world type nations, worse than ridiculous. They keep bringing it in and we can't leave the house because of it but on and on it goes.
