In 1995 when the forum was young I think it was John(CIL) that suggested that the members add their location in their handle. Most went with their first name and the state they lived in. Some of us still use the same handle that we started with 25 years ago. I felt it was a on line friendship. A warm fuzzy seeing a name and location. Since we are remembering, anyone want to share a memory of the early forum?

When I first got this new fangled thing called the internet in 1994 I was fumbling around one day. Put in Allis Chalmers and the Unofficial Forum name care up. Logged in and has been here almost every day since. Have made so many new friends from all over the world. It is amazing the places this forum has taken me. To the "Old Allis News" to the Gathering of the Orange shows in Westminster, MD, New York, and "coming Home". Always enjoyable visit.
Good Luck!

It was '98 or '99 when I found this site...I seem to spend more time here than any other place on the internet,,on second thought,,might be a close race with online auction sites,,I'm always lookin and checkin what AC stuff is sellin for....

When we got the internet it was the year 2000. One of the first things I searched was Allis Chalmers and found this site. NO registering then and I had a couple handles I used mainly because I'd forget my previous alias so I type a new one. I could go weeks or months before I'd get up the nerve to ask or say a whole lot (kinda strange now)..... and I mostly just absorbed what I read. And of course it was old slow dial up network for me so it was frustrating trying to fire up the page. Was also told by some not to let out any personal info but then some few years later I figured who's gonna care, they, whoever they are, already know more about me than I probably do so I started using my name. Now I visit almost daily.

Think it was '99 that I logged in for the first time.
Yup, kinda like a family here.
...and this site is visited the most for me.

I found the  Allis Chalmers on the key broad of a Gateway back in the mid 90's. They came to your door in those cardboard boxes painted up to look like milk cows. Maybe windows 95 or 97. I remember well the cute little ring tone and squelch sounds one would hear while waiting the the Gateway to power up. It took 2 minutes for the "BIG TOWER" to spring forth life. While you were on the "Information Super Highway", it tied up the land line so no calls could come in. Remember how big those monitors were. It took a large desk to hold them.

Now I type on an ASUS laptop with auto spell checking, wireless mouse, and printer. Gone is the larger than life tower, the landline connection, speakers, and a microphone.

I wonder who posted the first picture here? If you ask me, it is still to hard to picture post. Computers are smarter and thinner than they used to be. I am not.

Oh boy, it was 99' when I first stumbled onto this forum, and happened to be chatting with someone on here, about wiring up my newly purchased Model B, and that person asked if I offered wiring for Tractors, and at the time I didn't. It wasn't long afterward though B&B went up a new avenue into Tractor wiring and the rest is history. And, what branched off from the wiring, was everything else I did already for Antique cars, n' Trucks such as the Generator, Starter, Magneto rebuilding. It just expanded and exploded and Jo Jo and I started our website. When Darrin went from the old system to this forum, I wound up re-registering or somethin' and it picked me up from the new forum when I joined, but it was actually around 1999 when I first bought my Model B which I still have yet.  Like JC mentioned, its like a giant family here. I met and made a lot of great, great friends and customer's & vendors here. Been here ever since tryin' to help out if I can. I have a lot of new relatives now in my family... Long live the AC Forum!!    Thumbs Up

I don't remember when I first joined the Forum... late 90's I'm guessing.  Didn't post a lot at first.  I do remember some names that are gone, some of their own accord, some having sadly passed away.  I check this site everyday.
So, to some that have left we honor them by remembering...
Brad (MI), Brian Rees, John (CIL), 427435 (Mark).  I know I'm leaving many others off.
Thanks, Darrin for providing this forum for all of us.

I occasionally wonder whatever happened to John "give em the cold steel" also known as JohnGinNC. If I remember right after a family death (wife) he left the site.

It was 2005 for me. I was 23, fresh out of college and I took a construction job on the road. It was either the hotel or bar at night so I would sit in the job trailer for an hour or two after work on the internet. One day I typed in Allis Chalmers and this site popped up. I’ve been here almost every day since. I had a couple different handles over the years too. I’ve definitely made several friends over the years. And I definitely mis some that are gone and their stories.

I guess I would be a "newcomer" to this forum not joining until 2009 shortly after the massive overhaul, but I did read it a lot in the old format. I do visit it every day, it is a must. I joined it after I heard rumors AGCO was dropping the orange paint, and my very first post topic was called Fading Orange. I recall a guy from NY (maybe Jeff Z ?) who liked to rattle peoples cages a lot, correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for this fabulous forum.

I find it easiest to do a duckduckgo search with any A-C queries and just the other day pulled up some old posts with names I have not seen in years.
Wonder what happened to some of those old posters . . . .

I am a real newbie finding the new format in about 2012 ish. Watched the pulling portion of the forum implode and kind of backed away. Then I started to do some WD series rerufb work. I found so much information from good folks. I try to check in every day. Some days more than others. Has helped me so much with my Allis projects! Thanks!
I brought my forum name from another forum dealing with making maple syrup. another hobby of mine.
Interesting understanding the name and state origin.

I am a fairly newcomer also, didn't join until early 2010, I spent a lot of time on YT and took a while to figure out what, "The Other Site," was.  Didn't know about the name suggestion but back then Fred in PA, Darrell G (MN) and Harvey/PA posted a lot of good information and a some general good natured ribbing back and forth.  I noticed how their handle told where they were from and copied it.  The JW was what I was called in college and also every thermostat, motor or any other part I've installed or replaced those initials and the date in magic marker, or now Sharpie, on it.  One of those that left us too soon was Henry Moody, Henry se/k!, I was fortunate to live exactly halfway between his and David Maddux collections.  There are several around the Kansas City area I tried to keep in contact with on a somewhat regular basis that just disappeared without a trace.

There was a young man named Seth who would show us his latest gun purchase. WDman1951, Jim IA, Dpower, and Darrel in ND are some names I would like to hear more from. Captain Dana, Kevin in WA,  IBWD MIKE. And every year at Hutchinson I have the best talks with Michael V (NM), Tim, and Ray. I am forgetting a few I know, and for that I beg your forgiveness. You are all family to me. Family I would have never known with out this website.

I'll forgive you Tim.  hehehe
Yes, a HUGE family of some of the best and shadiest characters on this ole earth.  We make up a great bunch of Allis nuts.  There are a few of the 'Misfits' missing and a lot of great guys and gals that have passed away and I for one really miss them.
There are a lot who have just 'moved on' to other things and I miss them too.
We've had a lot of fun on this forum and I for one, thank Darin SO MUCH for this site!
I was an on-looker in the late 2000's and didn't join until 2010 I think it was and then I lost my sign in, so I started a new one and been here ever since.  Not so much in the summer, as I am up at the farm and don't have internet up there.
That reminds me,,,,,,,, I need to send Darin some monies so he can keep us in each others face.
To all the friends I have made on here, I thank you!  To all the people I've pizzed off and are still my friend, I thank you also.
To all the young kids that are joining ( and some older ones too ) I say HI and hope to meet you and am glad there is someone to carry on the Allis-Chalmers tradition.
THANKS to ALL OF YOU.

I don't remember when I found this site. But I am sitting here looking at my grandfather's pictures. They both farmed with A C tractors and   AC machinery. 1 in northern Iowa and 1 in southern Iowa. Then I look at pictures of Dad and Mom. They also farmed with A C and A C machinery. I have continued with it. Now my middle son has dad's WD45 that dad bought new in 1956 when he rented another 160 acres to go with the 320 acres he and Mom bought during and after WW2. Thanks for many hours at help and information. This site beats all the other AC sites i have seen - Hands down.

Fall of 1999 here and my handle of course reflects that mind set. They had installed internet at my office and I was clueless about it. My secretary said I could find anything on it and I said like what? She asked what I was interested in and I said Allis Chalmers. She punched that and this site came up and I clicked on it. The very next site was YT mag. So, how many beside me can claim that this is the very first web site they were ever on???? LOL. Don't post like I once did but look most every day.

I remember it was in 99 that I came to the Unofficial Allis forum, back then I was still in the Marines and my handle was Mike R. in NC . I bought and sold over 2 dozen D 10's all across the country, and dragged a dozen different models home to Maine with me in 2004 when I retired. I also remember waiting for dial up to connect and going into the old chat room in the evenings talking to the old bunch , Now I've been retired from the USMC for 16 years and have worked at a AGCO / Massey store this whole time, I actually sold some new AGCO compacts back in 05-07 and own a couple. I've gathered too many dozens of tractors and still gathering and I won't admit I have a problem....lol  I have 9 H3's to name one obsession. Anyway , I'm always checking in to visit the site, but don't participate as much as I used to. To one and all...  thanks for the community.  Mike

This is the first site I had been on, I was young and in running mode in the early 90,s then once at a birthday party at my sisters in the late 90,s early 2000- she had the internet,, when Allis Chalmers Energy was beginning to boom, she asked if I wanted to see something ; she brought up this page and AC Energy - and I was drooling ! Spent hours on that computer with dial up- was awesome !

Been around for awhile. I also have the "state" in my handle and i like that too!

I joined probably around 2000. Wow...20 years ago...I am not that old at 34 years young! Haha

Met some great people from this site. And some never met in person, so many good people full of knowledge. Still great to see the older names on here ...SteveNJ and Bill Long. You guys rock, keep it up!! Rick in Mo and Butch hanging out down there in OH. Butch, won't forget years ago you told me to get down there and try a round of plowing with that Model A. Hope you and the boys are doing good!

Will sure miss DonMO and his wisdom and time he spent on here sharing farm life. It was great to see pics of him and the 4 row corn planter and his WD45s.

Keep those ACs crankin guys!

Don't remember the year I first checked here, but I think it was about the time CTucker was injured in an accident,  and another person was injured in a accident involving a train.  I can't recalled the name for person in train accident, but I think he was crossing a RR track on his farm.
I never met or spoke with Don(MO) but always enjoyed his posts and pictures of his tractors still working.

left from conflict. Myself, I have enjoyed the people here, made some real good friends have learned so much, and even been able to help others.

Ok somI remember 2002 like yesterday when it comes to this topic. I had a Lear 31A trip in March that spring which ended in Watertown NY. Dispatch in Philly wanted me to hang there till the next paying trip so boredom had me type the 2 famous orange words we all know so well and this forum cam up. Somehow a chat was going on over a CA with a Woods L306 under her belly. The chat got me fired up and I told the guy as soon as I had my 5 days off soon I would buy it! That guy was our Don McCullough and that CA combo is still mowing my acreage and we have gone from 4 Allis’ to 13 plus one! And believe me many more to come! Dana

Seems it was early 90's   I was still in the Army so maybe 94?  Used to talk to Tony and Barb, My gomba Obiwan Cannoli, Captain Dana and others.  Got on the bad side of the Pennsylvania Mafia about the way they talk and had to apologize because I didn't know they could read.  I offered to edit Jeff's posts but the moderator and I could not agree on the proper fee.  Alberta Phil.

I first joined in about '99.  I was still teaching at the tech school and had some free time between classes.  I had just bought my first Allis, a '39 'B' which I still have and use, and was looking for some info on it.  When I typed in the magic words, this site came up and I've been on here ever since.  Made a lot of friends on here.  Many I've met and many I haven't.  I do miss Brian Rees from Australia.  Had a bit of a connection with him as my family was from there.  I'm going miss Don(MO) too as he was a big help with a couple of my engine rebuilds.

I've been on the forum since some time in the nineties. I can't remember if old allis news referred me to this site, or if this site got me to the old allis news. Either way, both been a part of my life for at least 25 years. Wish I would have saved every issue of old allis news that I got. Hard to believe that I'd have a hundred issues now. Eldon (WA) is about the only "way back" original poster that I recall who is still on here. Struck up a few a deals with him and met him a few times. Very sad how many posters on here have passed away. I had a few phone conversations with Don (MO) a few years ago in regards to my D17 diesel. Came up with a plan that in a few years, I'd have the money to have him rebuild it, and he'd have the time then to do. I guess neither aspect of that plan came to light. Still have his number in my phone contacts. For whatever reason, it'll probably stay there forever, along with my brother's number, who has been gone for over four years now too. My feeble little memorial, I guess. Thanks for starting this thread. Kind of a bittersweet one. Darrel

I can't remember when or how I got on here. I've got a G that I got before here. Because of here I got a D-10 from Eldon and dragged it all the way back to MI. That was the year that a GOTO was in Tulare CA. We went from wintering in FL. and saw some of the west side of this Great Country, to Tulare, and on to Eldon's and back to MI.
We got on here early on, not too long after it started up.

Got here in either 99 or 2000.  Have met a bunch of you over the years at GOTO and other events.  Lot of folks have come and gone over the years.  Don't post much, still lurk, and still have an orange backyard that would make Fred Sanford proud.
The OP mentioned John Schweizer as the originator of the idea of the state in your handle; he may be correct, as its been so long ago, but I would have given the credit to Ted Buisiker for that suggestion.

Been here since the beginning of the first forum.  I never liked sitting in study hall in high school so I would either go work in the Library or find a way to sneak out to the computer techs office where he would give me odd jobs and "test run" machines that he repaired.  I would visit the page during those times.  I remember being one of the first posters.  I posted a for sale ad for some bale loader brackets.  Dont ask me how I remember that.  I dont get to post much on here anymore but do check it at least every other day.  Working full time, a 2 year old and a 3 year old, as well as a small livestock farm keeps me from posting too much.

I remember talking to many great people on here.  My biggest joke is Im not as grumpy as I sound on here lol.  I will also say that I have had disagreements with people on here but still hold the upmost respect for them.

Probably the one person that affected me the most was the young man who died of lung cancer that had the two young girls.  Sounds bad but I dont fully remember his name.  I think it was Rich Davis?  I remember his fight to try to beat it so he could raise his daughters.  I remember the day he passed and his wife's post giving us the news.  Still haven't seen a post with so many replies.

Unit3 I will have to give you a call again soon.  Still waiting for you to stop by!

Also, its JimIA as in IA for Iowa not lA for Louisiana.  For some reason that gets confused from time to time. lol

Sounds like I was more of a late-bloomer compared to the rest of you folks. I was laid off from my last job in Jan 2008. One of the requirements for unemployment was to request your check online every 2 weeks after also verifying that you were applying and/or interviewing for jobs. Got tired real quick of running down to the library or unemployment office to use a computer so I splurged on our first home PC from wallyland and set it up. Of course, it was no time at all before I had to see what else I could do with this new machine. Now, I spend way too much time on here, FB, and ebay but oh well-LOL.

I've been here since "98" when it was call "3000toys" or something like that. the new forum is much better then the old by far. I don't post to much but that's because of all the knowledge here. By the time I read a post for help half a dozen others have already replied. A lot of knowledge and great people willing to help others. As many have said the people here are family. I wish everyone on this planet was like the people on this site. Many people have gone which is sad but also many new names have appeared. I hope that this site can survive the ages.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge, projects, hopes and lives!

I believe it was in '99 when I joined in here on the forum and still do every day like clockwork! I've met many people on here, along with getting to meet many of them at tractor shows or from stopping by the house to pick up items over the years. A great bunch of guys and always willing to help others along the way, so...I say keep up the good work guys, because there are still lots of younger guys wanting to learn and there's plenty of knowledge on here! Lon(MN)...thanks for starting such a great thread...it's been enjoyable reading all of the posts that were made!!!   Rick

I'm a late comer sure enough. According to my profile, I joined in March of 2016. I done searches on Allis Chalmers before but never found this site. We went to the Flywheeler's tractor show in Florida in February 2016, and a guy there told me about the forum. I went to this site shortly after I got home. When I first logged on I was surprised to see home many Allis Chalmers enthusiast there was. I thought there must be thousands. It wasn't long before I began to notice the same names over and over. I think we are a relatively small group considering we come from all over the country. I personally like that. It makes this site feel down home to me. It sounds ridiculous when I say I feel like I know you folks, but I do. I have met a few of you. And I have yet to meet one of you that I didn't Like.

I have been to a number of GOTO's and its always nice to meet a number of members of this forum, we try and meet daily at the Orange Spectacular in Hutchinson and it makes it more rewarding to be able to remember a face to go along with the names on here, If I remember correctly usually a picture of these meeting get on this form.

I don't know when I joined but it was a few years before the server was changed to the current one.  I've been to Hutch three times, the first when it was at the farm, probably close to 10 years ago, met a few people the first time but was overwhelmed with everything and everybody.  The second time was the year of the heavy rain and tornado warnings when Creston got his combine stuck in the field.  The last time was 2018, which was probably the most fun as I got to meet so many of you guys.  Probably bringing a cooler of peaches didn't hurt either...
Does anyone remember when the forum changed to the current one?  I think I've had the same handle the entire time.  I finally learned how to post pictures on the old forum, thanks to Barb, but haven't figured out how to do it now.  I haven't seen Orange Blood on for a while either, anybody talked to him lately?  It was enjoyable to visit the Man from Blair, NE, on my way home from Hutch last time.  I'm planing on attending this year and I WILL bring peaches!  Thanks to Darin and all those who have kept us entertained!

Wink John I believe the forum here was updated in Sept 2009.Their are a bunch of you old Wink timers that all started 9-11-09,which makes me think that was the day of the new start.

I fell down the rat whole of Tractor Porn in 2008. My computer wiz son got me a putter for Christmas 07. It took me sometime to learn how to LOL let the clutch out without stalling this contraption.LOL I became aware if the place about the time of the change over. I know I read a bunch on the old forum but this was up and running as well.

I have not had the privilege of being around the tractors Don loved the most. But the effort he put into keeping the knowledge he had learned alive is a rear thing. I have no idea how many "how to videos" he made  as I have not needed that knowledge yet. But watched several just because it was here. Then he did the clinics in his shop, thanks to Don and all his supporting "staff and friends",that worked so hard to keep more letter series Allis Chalmers tractors running.ClapClapClapClapClapClap

I don't recall the year that I found the site, but it was a long time ago. Think I may have been on my daughter's computer. Back then, six posts a day were a lot.
A lot of great people have posted and passed. Does anyone remember Brian from Australia? He was a regular and I don't remember if he passed away or just dropped off the forum. Mike R Maine is not only a good friend but my son-in-laws cousin. Maybe when I sell my H-3, he will buy it and have 10. Bob@allisdowneast

Doing searches on here has gotten me to the fact that there are a BUNCH of new people on here in the last couple of years.  And not all of them young.  Lot of good young people asking questions about fixing this or that and some older that are just retiring or just possibly getting into the 'Orange Disease'.
To ALL of the new people on here, WELCOME!

I'm bumping this to the top to see how many others we can get to spout off....and tell us a little something about themselves.  Seeing as there are virtually no shows this year, we can get to meet each other this way.

I actually joined the YT forum first back in 2005, when I was just getting in to using my one WD at the time (I had gotten into using it during the summer of probably 2004 or 2005). I joined here in 2013, after I had acquired my 2nd WD. I'm on the younger side still (I'm under 40). Hard to believe I wasn't even 20 when I joined the YT forum back in the day! Got my first WD in the mid-90s, after grandpa passed away and it traded hands a few times before it came to me.

I just play with my tractors on the weekends or my days off, and seem to spend more time working on them than driving them, but it is a fun hobby and I've met a lot of good people from here and the YT forum at GOTO and at some tractor pulls and tractor shows in and around Illinois. Starting to get the itch to buy a 3rd WD (or a 45) so I can have one with a wide front... and maybe a loader wouldn't be too bad, haha.

Bob -Maine, I remember the Aussie, Brian Reese, He was a great fellow.  He actually knew more of America and her history, and government issues than a lot of citizens here.  Brian left when several idiots that were on here back in the day were blathering their libnut stupidity and pissed Brian off and he left.  When that was, I don't remember what year but we lost a valuable Aussi awesome member there.  Probably over 11 years ago.  Sure miss his pictures.
  Wish he wouldn't have left.
Then there was a few others, like Dexter Peabody and Rod Rowell... Tried to contact Rod with the 4 different contacts and nothing... Didn't have any contacts for Dex. and makes me wonder what happened to them.
And then there was Jeff https://www.allischalmers.com/forum/uploads/242/JEFF1.jpg Remember him? Kaboom. but he too is gone. Jeff Z. NY

A Learjet 31A charter trip of mine ended in Watertown NY in the dead of winter in 2002. It became a several day stay there awaiting a new trip. I searched Allis Chalmers and found this “live” discussion board and saw a CA with Woods L306 for sale by Don McCullough Jr. I bought it. It was my third Allis since the cows left in ‘93. I now have 14 Orange and an Oliver 77. And there are more AC’s on the way! Keep ‘em polished and ride with Orange pride! Captain Dana

Yea, I have been on here too since before the "new" came around...I only have a WD-45 to remember and get sentimental about youth, and I have less than an acre to keep the battery charged and the oil liquid.  I don't post a lot but I open up this page at least every day to look around, and once in a blue moon I can even add to the advice... or do the 2 word or 3 word game.   God bless you all who are here in this Orange group, and your families.

I have tried many times to nail down when I came about here.

one question is when the site actually started?

I know I found it in the mid to late 90's. Brian Reese, Barb C were the first folks I talked to.
You guys have brought up a lot of memories! lots of folks I had forgotten about.

I guess it is not important when I stumbled upon the scene, but rather that I did. Made lots of new friends and acquaintances!

I can remember why I stumbled across this site and how much money it has cost me! I had one WD that I bought to move demolition derby cars around with (several of my buddies and I was into that at the time and I was the only one with some property to hide them on) and was looking for parts for it. As a result of this site, I have accumulated three WD's, 3 WD-45's, and two HD5G's, one CA, all waiting restoration, as well as several parts carcasses! I had one early unstyled WC, but I had to let it go. I have hauled all these machines from Iowa, NJ and all points in between.
