Sure hope Ryan Newman is ok after the big crash in Daytona. That was a nasty hit to the drivers side door. The announcers on Fox were pretty rattled looking when they were talking about it, reminds me of the Earnhardt crash.

It's a shame that these things happen. Cookie cutter cars restrictor plates etc., etc.,. and this what you get. Dull, dull, dull. But that's just me. No slam on those who like it.

He's a lucky guy. With that hit right in the head area of the door and one of the reports said the roll cage caved in. I figured when they cut the celebrations and the looks on everybody's faces he was gone.

Gotta' give the chassis builder kudos there. Man that took a Hell-a-va' shot at the drip rail at 180 mph. I heard this morning the same that he was in serious condition but not life threatening. It's absolutely amazing he came out of that wreck in one piece and is still alive. Chassis design saved him. I never kept track of NASCAR that close. I was a Drag Racer, so I was on top of NHRA racing more so. We get some bad wrecks in Drag Racing sometimes to and they  sometimes walk away from it after a 350 mph pass...

Fox News just announced that he is awake and talking with his family. As Steve said: kudos to the chassis builder. That did not look to be a survivable crash. Kudos to the safety crew also; extrication from a mangled mess of metal like that is no easy task. Prayers for Ryan and his family.

Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

Yeah that was a bad crash for sure, Steve what are you running to go 350 mph on one pass at a dragstrip, John Force don't even do that ???

if you look at the first cuation of the race  how that car just shot straight off the track and on the verge of going completely air born you can see just how dicey that is at that speed because their was no contact it just lost air    htose dragsters are way over 300 now and they dont even go a quarter mile anymore
