I am working on 200 that has cupped lifters and cam lobes that vary by 0.035”, I have a 301 gas from gleaner G. Before I tear it down does anyone know if there different, I would assume they are, but I’ll ask the experts. Thanks ,

I would think the valve opening and closing events would be different from a gas to diesel. A quick look on agco parts books shows they are different part numbers, but don't know exactly what is different.

The gas camshaft surely doesn't have the 4 inch long bolt in the nose to prevent camshaft breaking.

My D17D has a gas cam in it. Sounds like you better find the exact cam like Dr A is talking about though.

I have heard of guys putting 262 gas cam in 262D, making them run better. MACK

They will interchange - but you are going backward - the gas cam on the intake only had a lift of .355 whereas the diesel was .4405 exhaust was about the same - I can't find the specs now but the gas timing and duration was a few degrees different. They were ground out of the same casting.

The 2000 gas engineering had economy as an objective , the 2500 265 was the cubic inch amount in gas version to match the diesel in hp but the low #'s were a killer in cost for pistons sleeves and cranks.

Did the 301 gas engines in the XT’s have the bolt in the cam shaft?

301 gas cam never had a bolt in the end. MACK
