In the process of tearing down 2 D2200, both seized and 1 threw #4 rod, and busted the camshaft.
Any tips on removing the cam or crank gear while still on the motor? I cannot rotate the assembly to loosen the cam thrust plate.need to remove the front motor plate to remove the crank.
Second question?
Can the pistons be extracted through the bottom once the crank is out, or can the pistons and sleeve be extracted together?
Top of the sleeves have rust
I read in the service manual that at some point AC switched to hardened timing gears. Will the motor ID plate #s tell the story?
Thanks in advance for any tips and help
Jeff

Too simple, remove the crankshaft then the cam can be rotated.

The front motor plate won't let the crank out with the crank gear on, the front motor plate won't come off without removing the cam thrust plate, one of the gears needs to be removed to allow rotation

Wish I had info to help you get crank or cam out. If you don't end up rebuilding one of the motors please PM me as I'm in need of an injection pump for my 615. If I can't find one ill likely be parting out my 615 so might have an otherwise good 2200 minus the injection pump you could pick up in AZ.

Can you cut the cam, behind the gear, with a sawzall? Or one of them diamond bone saws?Wink

Thanks for any input
Success. Was able to remove the mains and rod bearings an lift the crank to unleash the gears
Removed the cam thrust plate bolts and everything came apart.
I was able to pop the pistons down a bit to clear up the bores and pull the pistons
Now onto the donor motor
To answer drmikeg, the donor motor did not come with an injector pump, sorry
Best regards to all
Jeff
