What motor? Usually means that goes towards the front of motor. I remember there being a motor that the rods were clamped offset on the wrist pins and the notch was to make sure the right offset was in the right hole so the wrist pin didn't rub on the sleeve

It's a B engine with 3 7/16" liner and pistons...............

I was so happy to get picture posted I forgot to tell engine size...

Thanks, Tim

Some pistons have off set wrist pins for a different angel to crankshaft, so notch indicates front of engine.      MACK

Most notches indicate the oil drain holes in the ring grooves. The notches were not present in the original pistons and I personally have never given there position the slightest attention in this engine. In the slant 6 and the V8 engines I placed the notch or stamped arrow toward the outside.
