Got a new gear shift boot for the D17 yeaterday at the GOTO.  Am now trying to put it on.  Tried to heat it in boiling water to make it more pliable, but no luck.  Anyone have any good ideas to get these things over the gear shift knob?  Appreciate it.  Dave

Take the rubber gear shift knob off before installing the boot.
Glycerin, tire mounting lubricant, or KY Jelly are good lubricants for rubber components.

How does the knob come off?

Dave,
Twist, pull etc to get the rubber shift knob off, then just slide your new boot on.  If I remember right the gear shift has a ball on the end to retain the rubber knob, also might try squirting some lubricant up into the knob from the bottom side.  Hope all is going well in the great state of Nebraska!

Kelly, thanks for the tip.  I wasn't sure you could take the knob off and still get it back on to stay.  Missed seeing you at Albert City.  Get all your hay in?  They said they've had over 32 inches of rain in the Albert City area since July 1st.  It looked like it.  One of the tractors pulling a combine got stuck in a low spot.  But Larry Karg with his four wheel drive 220 got him out!  They had to cut the plowing short it was so wet.
