Does anyone have a kitchen knife made from an old crosscut saw blade? Got several at the farm and though a bit crudely made they are some sharp knives.

Hubert, old crosscut saws make great knives. I have seen some real nice ones. Tracy

Back in the 70s I made a knife from a section of band saw blade. It hung in the hay shed for many years. It was hard putting an edge on it and looked a little crude. But I never had to sharpen it again I left the teeth on the spine of the blade. It cut twine like crazy the blade was only 4" long I burned up a few of dads drill bits drilling two holes for the handle rivets.

I have a pretty nice knife I’ve made from a German chainsaw bar. I’ve made wood chisels and such from coil spring and leaf spring. Keep them clean and dry if cutting taters.

I have cutout 50+ of this design with my cnc plasma cutter.
Someone gave me a 8" wide bandsaw blade, to make them out of.

The ones I made were in shop class some 50+ years ago and they are still in use. Had to use the blue wrench to burn holes for the handle rivets, a good bit on a drill press wouldn't even put a dimple in it. And once sharpened they will hold an edge. Dad never threw anything away if there was even a remote possibility it could be reused for something else, broken crosscut saws were just one of the things he saved.

The old ones work, the new ones are cheap steel and don't hold an edge.
Go to auctions and buy em up.  Once they have an edge on em they're hard to dull.  Only takes a steel to bring the edge back

You obviously have never let my wife use your knives, I think when I'm not looking she runs out and tries to cut rocks.

My wife is the same way JW.  I chew her out all the time, but it goes in one ear and out the other.  She gets mad at me when I say; "In one ear and out the other, nothing in between to stop anything, just a windy tunnel."  Got kicked one time too!

Finally got mom to quit putting the good chef, boning, and filet knives in the dishwasher and it has really helped with keeping them sharp. Not only do they bounce around against other metals, the dishwasher detergent is pretty caustic and eats away at the fine edge. I am now spending less time sharpening up when I go to cook.

Ted I'd have to run from a broom. Thumbs Up

Made a big Bowie knife from a steel cutting circle blade a few years back, the ones with a carbide cutting edge. Dropped  it on it's point after heat treat on my concrete floor and didn't even scratch it.
