All,
I'm working on a WD45 that has a WD block in it. I pulled the block and found thin copper washers or shims laying in the bottom of the bell housing. I found 4 so far. Didn't measure them but they are in the neighborhood of 3/4 o.d. 5/8 i.d. and 15 thou thick give or take. I thought maybe something to do with the head gasket but don't know how they would have gotten there.
Also, is the flywheel and clutch the same between the WD and WD45?

Arron, The flywheels are not exactly the same. I dont remember the differences. I believe the 45 flywheel is a little heavier?? The experts will be along shortly. I dont know what the shims are from?? I dont remember any shims like that in the 45 I worked on? Regards., Chris

Flywheels are the same. Pressure plates could be different, but either will work. WD45D uses a different flywheel. MACK

They went from the "vented" flywheel with the airspace behind the friction surface to the solid flywheel at some point on the gas. According to Agco parts book the flywheel went from part #70226760 to #70226868 at SN WD96714 which I would assume to be this change. The pilot bearing oil wick and cork plug in the crankshaft were also eliminated I believe with the change to solid flywheel. They fit and work the same on gas.
