Been using some Restoration series paint from Fleet farm. Tha Allis Orange is about $45. a gallon. Been buying the Allis cream colored paint from Agco. Cannot remember the price, but only avaliable in quarts and it covers very well. I am impressed with the way it covers even though it is such a lite color. I thought I would try some Agco Orange paint. Wow about $90. a gallon. I have been painting some John Deere tractors and have learned that John Deere paint covers extremely well and at about $56. a gallon is a pretty good value. I thought Allis Orange thru Agco would impress me as much as JD green paint thru JD. However at $90. a gallon I don't think I will try. Will stick to the paint I get at Fleet Farm. I think it is made by Valspar. Any thoughts?

What shade of Ac orange did you buy? Last time I priced PO #1 though AGCO it was $45 a quart (only avail. as spray cans or quarts) and had to buy 4 quarts, that $180 a gallon for PO #1! In my experience tho, AGCO does seem to cover nicely. I usually start with a couple coats of primer, then 1-2 coats of  AGCO Corporate Orange (sanding between coats), then a final 2 coats of AGCO PO #1 or PO #2 depending what year I'm doing (sanding between each coat also). No clear coat or hardener tho' (they didn't come from the factory with clear coat or hardener!)
Last time I did painting was about 3 years ago and AGCO Corporate Orange was about $35-$45 a gallon, if my memory is correct. That's way I use it as a base coat.

Orange paint is a yellow base paint and it does not cover well. It's just the nature of the beast. It doesn't matter what brand. I use the hardner in my paint because it will hold up better. Th factory paint had lead in it, and held up better then the paints made today.
I know none of us do it, but we should be wearing protective gear when we sand the paint on the old tractors. Bob

Ive heard that that hardener is really nasty stuff. We had been mixing it without a resporator, but was told after a couple projects that it was a must.
