Picked this 320 up a couple weeks ago, does anybody have any quick tips or tricks I need to know before bean harvest here in about 3 weeks? We got some good rains this year so I will be dealing nice tall beans. Make sure the bar flexes real nice. When I first got my 315 for the L2 it was real stiff so I had to take all the pivoting parts apart and clean them up and oil real good and I think I used a lot of never seize. Then later years I added 12" wide flaps evenly staggered across the reel that extended about 3" past the teeth, I moved the auger up to about 3/4" off the floor and forward as far as possible. I got all these tips from this website and the combine forum. I believe some have made it so the auger can go further forward that what the adjustments normally allows and then you'd have to add addition chain length. I also cut at an angle and catch the tipped over beans on the return pass. Oh and do a super job of cleaning out under the cut bar after use and spray lots of oil up there to prevent it from stiffening up again. And make sure the reel isn't so low that the teeth can get caught in the cut bar when it's at it's most extreme flex. Ditto on what Lonn said. We have a 318 and a 320 for the L3's. The 320 has shorter feather sheets and sickle is 4" closer to the auger. It does well in shorter beans when cut at an angle. The 318 has been a good unit also. In shorter beans, we try to run the floating sickle as low as possible so the beans don't have a hill to climb to get to the auger. We don't use the header control at all but most of our ground is level. Make sure you grease wobble box and sickle head daily. We have poly skids and that helps also. Yes I have poly skids too and I put a 3" flexible drain tile just
behind the cut bar using conduit clamps and the guard bolts to hold the
clamps. Here is a short video of mine.... I had
more to say in the bvideo but I think my Ipod ran out of storage space

The outer gathering dividers were there and they are the long dividers like yours, not the short. I should have done better with taking the video. I thought maybe the shorter dividers might do better but never had any to try out. I do have pics somewhere of the flexible drain tile mounted behind the cut bar that I could post. These dividers have a bunch of adjustment, it looks like I could shorten them up about a foot before they got in the way of the reel. Maybe I will go that way. Is there a need for them to be so far out in front of the reel that I am not seeing? If you find the pics of the drain tile mounted I would like to see it if you get a chance. We used 2" suction hose w/2" conduit clamps held on by the guard bolts. I bought a flexhead from an early rotary and swapped the reel for one with plastic fingers and got rid of the wood bats/steel tines. Our head has Crary guards which break if a steel tine gets caught in them. IMPORTANT: if your combine has the variable speed header drive, slow it down to its slowest speed and then disconnect the hose, otherwise you can overspeed the sickle and cause serious problems with the wobble drive. |

| If I remember correctly, there are three bolts you put in the sheve to lock it at proper speed. You can then leave hose connected. Check owner manual for proper directions. |
