I should know this. On the F3 cleaning shoe is the perforated sieve ALWAYS used in corn and soybeans? Or is this not needed at all, running only the chaffer and adjustable sieve? A Deere guy is asking me. ------------- Part time farming with a 1980 7060 and 1984 F3 hydro. |

| Chaffer is positioned on top & sieve is positioned under chaffer. I have seen a dedicated corn machine have a sieve deleted. I have also seen perforated sieve used. A correctly set adjustable sieve can offer excellent results with a huge range of settings. Harvest seed size can vary greatly. Harvest conditions can vary too. So un-threshed pods & cob pieces can easily be returned with an adjustable sieve. |

| I seen a bean screen in a A2 years ago. Was in place of adjustable sieve. I would think it would choke capacity some but deliver better sample. I've had conventional Gleaners for 38yrs and only used the adjustable chaffer and sieve. |

Thank you both! My mechanic and I continue to try to figure out why I have occasional grain leakage at the front of the shoe when it is running full or on a sidehill. He asked me what that screen was for, it's coming out. ------------- Part time farming with a 1980 7060 and 1984 F3 hydro. |

| The chaffer is on top. The adjustable sieve is underneath. Sometimes the adjustable sieve is replaced with a screen, of different hole sizes. On a corn/soybean machine there are fine screens underneath the sieve that can be exposed for letting out dirt and weed seeds. You have to pull blanks out of the shoe to expose the fine screens for this. You must slide the blanks back in for oats and wheat. |

| 71302627 in F2-F3 partsbook is the pan under the sieve that has the perfs to let weed seed etc pass through and go to return. There is a "cookie sheet" that slides in on top of it to make a solid blank like you would want in wheat. If that panel is perforated,the return ele should have the screen on the bottom of it too. It should have a solid shield to pull up and cover screen. With those screens open,you can keep a lot of fines and weed seed from going in the bin. Good idea if using on farm storage. If going to the elevator,sell it unless too much for sample. |

Excessive grain into fan housing is caused by overfilling the cleaning shoe(chaffer/sieve). This can be caused by numerous dynamics -higher grain moistures(let it dry down more), -higher grain yields(lucky you!) -terrain{hills}(add a hillside blower kit or if it already has one, then service it for constant air pressure). -choked chaffer/sieve(open them up to allow max grain flow while limiting trash in sample), -choked fan setting(open all the way), -slow clean grain auger(speed up kit), -worn/missing paddles on clean grain elevator.(service it), -straw walkers position( forward or backward), -etc, etc, etc.....). I’d add excessive machine forward speed, but if it’s header & threahing(cylinder/concave) are keeping up & doing well, then reducing forward travel speed is counter productive. BUT, if you can’t remedy all the other limiting dynamics, then yes, you are forced to slow down forward travel. |

The perforated screen was to let out the weed seed and such fines... why dump weed seed it on your ground - sell it! :-) The later model Corn and soybean models did not have perforated screens... some customers demanded it so it was an option for a few years but finally dropped. We always told customers never remove the 'cookie sheet' for two reasons, 1 it is not needed 99% of time and 2 it always got lost and was never to be found when we traded it back in -- had to buy / make a bunch in 40 years... to make them go in wheat... grrr ------------- When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money.. |
