Mr. Wendel passed away on Monday August 12, 2019 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was 80 years old. He was the author of many books about different mechanical equipment, plus various books about farm equipment manufacturing and company history.

Prayers go out to his family.

He was a very prolific writer, I had no idea how many different interests he had.  He did a  lot for the groups of collectors he wrote for.  His work will continue to be appreciated for years to come.

According to his book "The Allis Chalmers Story" and if I remember correctly he was researching the Allis-Chalmers archives at Milwaukee for his book when the announcement came over the loud speakers that Allis-Chalmers and Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz had come to an agreement selling the Ag division and various other assets to KHD.

Thank you DonDittmar for posting C.H. Wendel’s obituary. I enjoyed reading it. I’ve read & referenced his book, The Allis Chalmers Story, many times. His book & Norm Swinford’s, Allis Chalmers Farm Equipment 1914-1985, are always close by, well read, & their bindings loose from my many reference searches. Thank you to such Great authors & historians.

Chuck was a neighbor of my grandfather's when I was very young... I didn't realize that I'd purchased and read many of his books when I spoke to him at the Old Threshers print shop six years ago... he was a treasure of a guy, and will be missed... but I thank him for gifting the world with his books.
