Hello again! :) Well, I finally have it running. I think I will need a new carburetor, but it runs! However, when I starts it doesn't seem to run 'smooth'. I noticed that while it is running, the throttle rod from the engine to the carburetor will move back and fourth on its own changing the throttle. If I keep it still, the engine seems to run smooth then. The throttle lever at the wheel will always stay in place, but the rod doesn't. Is this the carburetor causing this? Or the governor part of it? Trying to work on this part now. LOL It runs, but won't stay running long. Thanks again everybody! Hope everybody had a great fourth!

It could be just too much slop in the linkage from the gov to the carb. The CE engine had a hole in the throttle shaft for an "anti surge" spring. Thanks CTucker - do you have a picture or a link to how it is supposed to be? I am missing a spring on this. I have a spring on the choke but can't remember where the other spring should be. I have the manual, but it doesn't show that part. At least not that I can see.

| surging also means a dirty carb , if you hold the govenor rod will the engine run at that rpm ? if its does then its gov.adjustment if not its carb cleaning and valve lash |

HudCo - Correct, if I hold the rod still, then the engine will idle smooth and "normal". (at least, it sounds like that way) If I let go, then it moves back and fourth on own and the engine sputters some. If Gov. needs adjusted, how do I do that? and other then the choke spring on the carb, is there supposed to be another spring on the throttle?

I don't think the WD ever had the anti surge spring like the C,B and CA. It could be added to help remove slop from the linkage though You could hook a tension spring in place of the cotter pin at the carb and run it forward to some anchor point. The CE engine had a small cross hole in the "LINK" pictured below. Thanks guys! I took the carburetor off and moved the throttle rod. There were two holes it could hook up too on the carb. a lower and upper. I moved it to the upper and its running smoother. still moves some, but better. I think the gov. needs adjustment (however you do that) and still needs a new carb. |
