I have a quest about the above topic.
For pulling, do you want the factory spec rim width, for the specified tire or, would narrower or wider rim be of advantage?
It seems to me, that a little narrower rim would be a advantage, as you lower pressure, to let the tire tread spread out, rather than cup in in the contact patch area.
What are your thoughts on this?

most run wider, and there are some rules against going wider than what the tire mfg specs. gives you a wider/larger footprint

This is what makes tractor pulling interesting. Everyone has their opinion and some can make something work that others say can’t. I have seen everything from a couple inches narrower than tire size to wider than tire size and I have also seen a 34” rim for a 30.5” tire. The track conditions will also have a bearing on what will or won’t work. If what your using doesn’t seem to work, try something different.
------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY
