We live in an older part of Omaha!  We have a Mega Mart convenience store about 300 feet West of us at the end of the alley.  That store was robbed on Friday evening at 11:08.  At 11:59 our door bell rings, I roll over and go back to sleep.  Saturday evening I hear on the news that that store was robbed the evening before.  I got to thinking about my security cameras on my garage looking east and west in the alley.  The door bell the evening before was probably the police.  Sure as shooting, tonight a nice police woman asks if she can see my video from that evening.  She saw the robber leave on foot from the in store camera, but we see no one on foot in my video.  We do see a car going east up the alley real close to that time.  So, she called CSI to come capture video off my system! Very fast and efficient technician!  That was a first for me!

Yep,,,it's a whole new world out there for sure,,,,,I've goten to where I check out the many cameras in the stores and am amazed at how many there are everywhere,,,even in resturants. It's all good cause the less them thieves steal,,the less it costs us.
Now,,,something that wasn't publisized  too much but the AG of new York,,(I think) was wanting to pass a law where they would NOT prosecute anybody if the value of the stolen  groceries was less than $750,,,,,,!!!  He says it shouldn't be agin the law to be poor and hungry.  Can you imagine the crime rate gonna be if he gets it passed?????
Chit maybe we oughta all move over there and,,,,and,,,eat free,,,,,,WinkWink
 Chit,,,I'm outa here,,,,,,Wink

there is a wally world in Omaha (not far from where Greg lives) that loses approx. 2 million $$ a year to shop lifting and theft/robberies. wally world refuses to close it as it's a good tax right off for them, and they also think it helps feed a lot of people in that area. PffffT!

Can you believe the millions wally world saves in wages by having self checkouts that you are being forced to use.  Hardly a option anymore with just 1 or 2 checkers with long lines waiting to be checked out.

I can assure you that they lost money on me when they did that at our local Walmart. I haven’t been back since.
There is one just across the line in MO that still has checkers. We go there if we have to.

re: cameras....
City of Hamilton here has a BYLAW agaist you pointing cameras off your property and WILL fine you......
..meanwhile on nearly EVERY newscast, the Hamilton Police are asking for ANY home security camera video !!!!

also
If you have ANY 'wifi' devices, CHANGE THE PASSWORDS NOW !!! There's at least 3 websites that capture and play wifi security camera pictures, 24/7  ! Saw that on a recent TV show, homeowner was NOT impressed the CBC saw HIS backyard and kids !
I think it's Princeton that has a free IOS APP that shows YOU what data 'they' are capturing from YOUR wireless devices. It includes, PCs, tablets, printers (!), baby cams, security cams, routers, pet locators, car GPS,etc.

Joe,
The DA for Dallas county said he would not prosecute for thefts of $750 or less.
He really opened a can of worms. He had to crawl back and say it was for people stealing food trying to survive...Business owners were not happy. Most LEO's were saying we will enforce laws on the books. I do not need to remind you which party controls Dallas county.

Hey David,,,you're exactly right,,,,it was the jerk from Dallas County,,,,Wink,,,my bad.  My Son that manages a resturant in Dallas  are sure concerned how that is gonna shake out. As it is,,it has always been  dangerous to accost a thief,,,more so now that they think they have a "right" to steal food. MY, MY,,,anything to get a vote,,,,,
I'm thinkin this dude ain't gonna get past the Hand Out line when it comes time to ask for donations and your vote,,,,,

Is running on FB and the News services Portland Deputies have stopped responding to some calls, too hazardous or too meaningless.
