the last 2 times I've used my 190 XT, It's done a little growling when my foot is on the clutch when I first start it. After it's warmed up, it seems to be OK, which I find to be kind of peculiar. I would assume that the throw-out bearing is on its way out. There is not a grease zerk somewhere for the throw-out bearing that I'm overlooking is there? Or is there something else that could be wrong that I'm overlooking? I am using the tractor on a round baler, and seldomly even use the foot clutch, cause I use the PD all of the time, so the throw-out bearing is not being overly taxed at all. Any help, ideas? Crankshaft doesn't have a lot of endplay does it? I haven't really heard of a 301 having a problem with thrust bearings, but with it only doing it when you first start (when the oil system is dry) it makes me wonder.

Sounds like throwout brg failure in the making. Many/most times the failure is due to the pedal "freeplay" has gone to zero and the brg runs all the time. Two inches minimum pedal freeplay must be maintained at all times (4 inches is better yet)........takes a split to fix it and it will eventually eat thru the clutch pressure plate fingers when it completely fails. You can look at it from underneath the bellhousing by removing the rectangle cover plate.

Thanks, I'll remove the cover and check on it tomorrow. It got a whole lot worse tonight, I think the throw out bearing must have come completely apart, cause now, three fourths of the clutch pedal travel is free travel. Before this whole issue transpired, I had only about an inch of free travel, so I guess that wasn't enough. Looks like a tractor split is inevitable. $&#@!!! Darrel
