Just finished rebuilding my 426 in my 7060 and got some questions regarding it, first is I think my coolant Gage is off, the temp rises quickly hits 230 but using an infrared temperature gun it says the top rad hose and engine block are around 160 degrees Fahrenheit, plus feeling it by hand it definitely does not feel 230, now I just recently replaced the sending unit along with the rebuild, so could it be the gauge in the dash itself? Fuel Gage seems correct, if it is will a Gage unit out of a 8000 series work? Like the way it looks better, seems easier to read etc, second question is do I need to do a retorqued of the head after I run it in?

PUT A CAP TUBE/MANUAL GAUGE IN IT AND SEE WHAT TEMP YOU COME UP WITH, WAS THE RAD RE-WORKED?

You didn't use teflon plumbers tape to seal the new sending unit did you? to get proper gauge readings the sending unit body needs a good contact to "ground" in order to get a proper reading. Teflon plumbers tape can interfere with making a proper ground. By the way the factory used 180* F engine thermostats in the 1970's.

Are the sending unit and gauge matched. Not all sending units are the same.
