Hi I have an Allis C , the steering box need to be replace, Does the stering box from model B and C are the same and interchangeables? Thanks |

Hi I know that Ross made steering box for model B ,C, anf CA. But the question is, Does a steering box of a B or a CA fit a model C ? Thanks |

They steer backwards of each other. The B arm goes down and the C arm goes up. The case might be the same, but the gears are cut mirror to each other and won't work. AaronSEIA

The steerings are unique to each tractor. The B is the smallest, the C is a little larger and tha one for the CA is completely different, it has 2 steering pins inside as opposed to only 1 fot the B&C. ------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

| The B Ross steering box has a shorter and smaller diameter cross shaft than the C. The C used both Ross and Gemmer steering boxes. The only CA steering boxes I have seen was Ross which had two palls rather than one. The C and CA would have the longer shaft. I am not sure if the arm to the steering link had the same spline. When I put the CA steering box on a C I used the arm that came with it and didn't check the fit of the C arm on the CA splines. |

My personal opinion is that the Gemmer is a better designed box, it has more adjustability to compensate for wear. ------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

Gemler box is probably better but more complicated and there are fewer of them around. If you need parts that are No Longer Available ask as there are people making aftermarket parts and ther are some used parts around. ------------- CA, WD, C, 3 Bs, 2 Gs, WC, I-400, 914 |

| I agree with the Gemmer being the better of the two. Of course that is just my opinion. I have at least two of the Gemmers. I noticed two complete boxes with steering wheels and tool box shroud and arms the other day in a parts pile. I would guess they were Ross boxes for B's. I know there is a Gemmer I took apart a few years back and put it somewhere. |

| I'm a little sick since I scrapped 8 tons of Orange Iron. I remember saving the Acorn Nuts off the Complete B/C steering assemblies that went on the trailer. With my luck I didn't save enough goodies. |

Hey, that is my narrow front B! I bought that from Roger VanCamp years ago as a factory narrow front B. He thought is was a rare tractor and had it for years. His son broke something on it and it set to the North of his barn for years and had set up. I tried for years to buy it and one day he said he would sell it to me if I would restore it and switch it over for starter. He loaded all the necessary parts along with the tractor.  I stripped it down and Roger was disappointed when I showed him the torque tube where the wide wishbone had wore into it before it had been changed to a narrow front. It had the C steering box on it and I used the B steering box and constructed a B steering arm to fit the C steering link. The picture with the blue was the second paint job after I put a 4 inch stroke crankshaft in it and Chevy valves in the head.

No it does not steer backwards. simple test to show why it would or wouldn't! Hold a pencil in the center and when you rotate it like the steering arm would move you will find one end will push forward as the bottom will pull backward. In the picture on the trailer with the C the arm is up and the picture with the B steering box the arm is down. All that needs to be done is to have the steering arm on the box to push to make the wheels to go the correct way. If it steers backward just change the arm the opposite way on the shaft you have it and walla you solved the problem. If the sun is shinning bright and you can't see it look up instead of down. It is called thinking about how things work when your making non factory changes. It makes things more fun with less road blocks. |
