The Turbine Indy Cars .    This time 3 showed up. Lotus with Turbine power. These three were dubbed "The Wedge"  I wonder why. Lotus #70 with Graham Hill at the wheel won the 1968 Indy 500 in 1968.
Quite a story. USAC made the decision to race only piston engine race cars at Indy

The turbine never won the Indy 500, close, but dnf. Graham Hill won in 66, Foyt won 67, and Bobby Unser won 68, all in piston cars.

Ken in Texas stands Corrected Correctly by Ken(MI).  There were 2 Turbines In the front row after qualifying for the 1968 500.  I was there for 1st day Qualifying.       Joe Lenard on the pole in Turbine #20. Hill in the Middle in Turbine #70. Bobby Unser on the outside row one
It was back and forth all day between Unser and Lenard. Hill crashed his #70 Turbine
Lenard had the lead when a yellow came out near the end.
When the green came out Unser passed Lenard in Turbine #20   that soon quit running just before Unser took the Flag to win.
Close only counts in Horseshoes and Handgrenades
