I always wondered why none else built a small row crop FWD like the IH 2+2. It seems like a great tractor for some jobs to me, but being that they never really caught on and do not have the best resale value maybe they were not as good as view them. |

I always liked the looks of them, especially the 7288 and 7488 (the last ones), they were the only ones IH suggested putting duals on the front axle.    |

I heard they were good tractors if you only had duals on the front or back but if you had duals on both front and that you would have problems.

It may have been just the 3588, but one of them was disaster on differentials

My neighbor just sold his 3788,used it to pull 5/16 #720 plow,and 24" field cultivator,was a real good tractor,was little hard gettin used to driven it.

Did the 7288 or 7488 ever make it out of the prototype stage? I thought they didn't and the prototypes were sold off. A friend of mine has one, don't remember if 72 or 74. I always heard 3588 through 6788 were trouble. Front axle and hinge trouble. my auctioneer/comedian neighbor puts one of these on display at our fair stating "custom garden tilling" and has a 2 bottom 3 point plow hanging on it. It is always in the field working. When I was a kid and these came out, I loved them. I remember having my dad go to the IH dealer and I got a 2X2 hat ------------- '40 WC puller,'50 WD puller,'50 M puller '65 770 Ollie *ALLIS EXPRESS contact* I can explain it to you, BUT I cannot understand it for you!! |

| Everybody I knew or heard of said they were big dogs,one farmer bought a 8070 and said it would walk circles around his 2+2 but I don't know the size.Alot if people said they were ugly, I think there kinda neat but I wouldn't have one. |

| Those anteaters are the ugliest things ever. My brother had a 1/16 scale version when we were kids. I shot it full of holes with my bb gun! Neighbor had on and couldn't get rid of it fast enough, his words. The no duals on the front thing was because if you dualed both front and rear, the tires would hit when turning. |

| We had one for 15 years or more. Put 8000hrs on it, most of them myself. Duals on front and back for working ground, and forage harvester in corn. No problems with them touching or breaking. Had to replace the torque amplifier and the torque limiter. Mufflers only lasted a short time so I just eliminated it, then didn't have to buy new ones every couple years. When we traded it we tried out a lot of different tractors and settled on a 9110 CaseIH. This is the only non Allis Chalmers ever on our farm. Really good engine for starting in the 2+2 and not hard on fuel. |

| The farmer I work for has a 3588 with duals all the way around. You do have to watch turning on it because they do touch. Duals improved the ride by 100% I thought. Decent horsepower for the size, but a powershift tranny would make it better for field work. It is our biggest tractor so it sees the 12' soil saver, 26' field cultivator, 20' disk and 500 bu. grain cart. |

Neighbor here has 3 of them, all bought second hand. Says it the cheapest horsepower one can buy. He has had good luck. Told me he has had to fix all three belly hyd pumps, some inexpensive part that you cant get from the dealer(want to sell you a whole new one) but there is a hydraulic shop that know and will sell you the part cheap. For the life of me I cant remember what it is though. He checks the wiring in the pivot, common for the wires to wear the insulation and catch fire. Think he didn't spend more than 4000 for any of them and they were all decent looking and driving tractors |

| Talking about cheap horsepower I had a guy tell me the old stubby case 4 wheel drive tractors were cheap horsepower but you had to work on something major every year so I was wondering how cheap it really was. Usually if there cheap there is a reason either problemattic or worthless in the field. |

My father in law has one on the farm and so does the neighbor down the road. They both swear by them for use in the sandy soil.....
