This is the clutch from that d-17 im working on. Measures bout 11in. Is this 4-tab unit original & should I replace with a full circle of friction?? What do you use? thanks Keith

I would say it’s original style. My 190XT had a 4 puck clutch. I did upgrade it to a 6 puck when I replaced it. D-17 owners on here will confirm.

Not original for a 1958 model D-17. That is what us old guys would call a One-Seventy clutch.

With that type clutch, regrind flywheel and new pressure plate with new clutch. MACK

That 4 pad clutch disc is for the D17 Series IV, originally...the spring cage side is the side that goes towards the pressure plate and the other side should have a longer hub protrusion that goes towards the flywheel. The reason the hub is short as you see in the pic is, because it has to be to clear the PTO hub in the cover. I've seen woven material on them, 4 pads, 6 pads and even feramic, which is very high priced. Depends on what you're using the tractor for, as to what material you should use. Rick

...and the woven wears the surfaces the least. Everyone has their opinion as to which is best.
