I am picking up my HD-6B mutt next weekend. I am looking to get the right shade of yellow for a 1965 Allis Chalmers dozer. I looked at a reference in another thread and there were about 4 or 5 yellows. Which one in 65? Is there an off the shelf option? Thanks.

You may not like the OEM Allis Yellow as was REALLY yellow, should be in any auto parts color guide. Most end up the older cat yellow as my own has.

My HD16DC had a light yellow as OEM. I found that Van Sickel had an exact match of my AC Yellow. I will send you the numbers to look up. I started by ordering a minimum 6 rattle cans for testing and small parts. Then ordered 2 gallons for bigger parts. DMiller is right on the bright banana yellow. Some samples sent to me by Different companies all having AC construction yellow were bright yellow and not close to the pics they sent out. In the end it’s personal preference.

Paint colour clearly changed from the '60s to '70s- went from the bright yellow, which faded to cream, to a more orange yellow, similar to Cat.

Thank you. I was surprised how many variations of yellow AC used over the years.

"School bus yellow" seems to be a color some paint companies put out without a custom order. It is quite close to the old Cat paint and also not far from 60's Allis. Some years ago I got a smoking hot deal on a 5 gallon bucket of Volvo loader paint... I guess someone just didn't pick up their order, it worked out very well for me. I repainted my H3 with it and I don't think anyone would have known the difference from A-C paint for the year, it was pretty much identical to my A-C 816 as well. I agree with the earlier comment that it's what you're happy to see on your machine that counts.

I have been advised that AC used "National School Bus yellow" This comes from the former Service Manager of Cooke Sales & Service, in Missouri. We have painted the D, the 540 wheel loader and will be painting the last HD6E restoration that color as well.

Anyone have any online links on where to get this national school bus yellow? I am sure I can find it off the shelf but like to at least price it online.

I took a part off my HD4, 1969 model, that was out of weather. It matched perfect to Lorain Yellow. HTH Tracy

Good Morning everyone.
Again, it really boils down to personal preference. In my case, my 16 was either a faded yellow or OEM light yellow. I like it compared to the other AC Yellows I found and when also compared to Cat Yellow.
I bought 6 rattle cans from Ag Parts Fast which handle Van Sickle paint. I chose the "AC YELLOW CML3016-0.
Was less than $40.00 with shipping and used it on small parts that I had taken off for restoration such as Air Cleaner, floor plates, dash parts, front grill, seat parts and battery boxes. The pic is comparing the Cat Yellow, which is very easy to find everywhere against the AC Yellow shown above. I really like the lighter yellow. Less Gold in it and looks very good on tractor. Here are side by sides for what it is worth.

Don't get me wrong, I was going to go Cat Yellow all in originally but thought getting the paint color mixed would ensure a uniform color as I am painting in stages due to timing and weather.
Good luck with your choice and please share pics. We love pics.
