My tractor is hard to start. When I get it running it seems to run fine but it doesn't get to higher rpm. Also produces white smoke. I'm thinking I have an air leak somewhere in the suction side.? Ive decided to pull the pump and send it off for overhaul. While dismantleing I notice the timing marks in my pump window aren't alligned. Not even close. I removed my valve cover to make sure I was on the compression stroke for number1. 18°BFTC and they still don't line up. This pump was just put on after an overhaul. When it was I stalled the allign ENT marks we're alligned. What did I do wrong? How do I correct this? Does my pump need rebuilt? Thanks

Sounds like the balancer slipped. The rubber gets old and the two parts slip.

433t has a solid damper.
When the lines are together in pump, where is the marks on damper?      MACK

I haven't checked where the dampner aligns with my pump timing marks lined up. I'll do that and get back to you. Thanks gives me something to check

THE HARDEST JOB your pump has to do is crank the engine - if it runs smooth at idle and doesn't run away , I don't think this will solve your issue.  I would check for positive fuel flow while the engine is running - if you have a restriction / suction the pump may not be advancing and not getting enough fuel to rev up.   Most 4.33 ' s are hard to start.... low compression ....

below 50deg they will bark and snort alot at startup unless that rebuild put the 8010 kits in it....

Mack, I brought the Marks in pump window together. Took the gear off the front, rotated till I got timing mark on dampner alligned at 18° BTDC . Replaced the gear and she fired up!! Running pretty rich though. Now I need to figure out how to turn the fuel down. It got rid of the white smoke and now it's black with an occasional spark. This is a new rebuild and I don't want to burn her up. Thanks for everyone's ideas. I check them all out.

Now that it is in time, may need a closer adjustment. Remove timing window, rotate engine clockwise until pump marks are together. Recheck mark on front damper. May need to readjust. Always turn in direction of rotation to check timing.      MACK

agree, you may have gone a tad too far ... putting the fuel in a tad too late.

It's really hard to see the timing marks on this dampner. But with you guys information and some luck I ought to be able to get it done. Thanks

If your pump dive shaft isn't timed to your pump rotor correctly. Will your engine still run?

It can only be right or 180 degrees out. Won't run 180 out. You should be close. MACK

You might be able to help things out, by putting some visible paint or nail polish, on the timing marks...  Also if you can rig up a timing light, to the # 1 cyl, you might see if the marks stay true, as RPM changes.  I know there is a sensor, out there that picks up a fuel impulse, cause they have an hour meter, with that sensor, used in a diesel tach/hr meter...Wink
