Switching engines on my 440 Allis. The old engine had a broken crank. Anyone on this forum worked on a 440? By that I mean the factory service manual instructs you to remove the transmission with the engine. Then unbolt engine from the transmission. It seems like you should be able to pull the engine and leave the transmission in place. It looks like the biggest challenge would be to support the transmission so you could seperate the two while in the tractor. Anyone with firsthand experience.

the engine is basically the only thing holding trans in. you can pull trans out the bottom, then pull engine by itself. those steigers aren't the easiest to work on for sure. I preferred the versatiles when it comes to big four wheel drive tractors.
