hmm , went less than 10MPH, had to be launched, and entire payload was the batteries to create the ion stream....ya gotta wonder how many millions (or billons) of bux went into it.
Sorry but for less than 10K Canucks I can get an off-the-shelf drone that can actually take out a target and not be seen. OH yeah, untraceable to me as well...

Jay, the Wright Bros efforts were not taken seriously in the beginning. no one could see a useful application of their fragile crafts.
I do think this new development has limited use, but it could find a niche market if further development is possible.
Im curious why solar cells are not possible with this

I don't know about that. The big underground dope growers have been using negative ion generators for years to keep the stink of their locations from creeping over the county. Them particle zappers that have been on the market for a long time to take smoke and dust out of air are neg. ion generators and I think I read they could be converted to work as engines to push, not a lot but constant and should work in space. I'm thinking I seen somewhere on the net instructions on how to make the one for smells.

OK, neg ion gennys been around for at least 100 years, Heck I've got a Honeywell air cleaner on my furnace..same idea. Bug zappers, same thing,Dyson I think makes one...
There's been at least one solar powered plane go round the World in my lifetime.Adding solar to power the genny is great idea, easy to do and cheap. For less than $50 I can buy off the shelf solar cells, ion genny, lipo battery, nicr wire.
The HUGE problem is the actual construction of the aircraft. Remember 20KV ! Then there's weather, humididity(biggest factor), wind, 'power to weight' ratio, etc.
I just can't see one ,practical application that can't be done some other way
