I am thinking this is a 262 gas engine.

That's a great story and a great father-daughter activity.

Me?  I finished a pulley swap on a just-for-fun speedy lawn tractor project with my son.  I promptly did a wheel stand and tossed myself off the back 7 minutes into testing.  I'm going to avoid 100mph+ projects.

Kudos to them!

No GM had plugs and distributor on left side. Looks like a D19 engine.

It is the 262 engine. It was in the Summer edition of Old Allis News.

I don't know what that guy was talking about when he said this is a stock farm tractor. What's the top speed of an actual farm tractor? I read an ad in a farm magazine once. It said some modern tractors can reach road speeds of 35 to 45 mph. That sounds extremely fast to me. My two New Hollands (4835 and 7740) are 22 years old now and they are the fasted tractors I have. I always thought the smaller one was faster, but according to the GPS they are about the same. 19 mph wide open. Has anyone else clocked your tractor? I've always wanted to ask that question for the heck of it. If so, what have you got and how fast is it?

Usedta have a MF turf 20, and that sumbitch would blow your hat off, in 3rd Hi.  Also had to hold onto my glasses, while simultaneously putting both heels on the tie rods, AND pressing the accelerator so it wouldn't die, or the front end wiggles would make it go outta control...
