Monday I was at Harrington Delaware - my wife was making contributions through the slots to the State of Delaware.  They were setting up for the Delaware State Fair that starts this weekend.  Naturally I wondered through the farm equipment that was there.  WOW!!!  The SIZE.  When one remembers that the biggest tractor he sold was a 50 something HP D-17 then wonders around displays where the average power of the units is about 100 HP.  I had trouble keeping my mouth closed when I saw the 12 row planters, and the HUGE combine headers.  However, the thing that really "bowled me over" was a JD 500 HP tractor.  TEN TIMES MORE HP THAN I EVER SOLD.

I just could not help myself.  I found a friendly person and had my picture taken with a tractor where the tires were higher than my head.
Please forgive me I have sinned.
Good Luck!
Bill Long
ps  Sorry the picture was too big for me to load.  Just imagine an articulated eight wheel drive John Deere tractor whose tires are taller than my head.

Completely understandable Mr. Long. It's amazing to see the advances in technology that have happenned over the years. We now have "compact tractors" that are smaller than a B with air-conditioned cabs. On the other end we have the behemoths like the one you saw. They even have tractors now that don't even need an operator to carry out their day-to-day chores. They are computer controlled and GPS guided. They go out and work almost autonomously. They will even go back to the fuel tank and refuel themselves, then go back to work, all with noone behind the wheel. I always like to imagine where AC would be in this picture if they had been able to survive like JD.

Then to realize that one tractor has helped squeeze out at least ten of each owner's neighbors. That same owner wonders why his church, school, and local grocery store are struggling. Hmmm. Makes you wonder if it really is progress.

Another one to see and wonder is go by the Kinze plant. They build some of the biggest planters available. I think I heard they make a 50 row planter. Fill that baby up with a semi I'll bet...

My Sincere thanks to Glenn in PA for resizing the pictures so they could be posted.
I guess you have all seen these huge units but for a city slicker who usually views older units this was an eye opener.
Good luck!

Don't forget about GPS steering capability.  Straight rows are everywhere now...

Bill, I think it will be OK if all you touched was the tire. After all, since WWII they all had them round black things so I guess you could say that is a generic part, huh?   LOL
