Can anyone tell me the difference between the two injection pumps on a D17 and a D19? My boy needs his D17 pump rebuilt, but we have a parts D19 at hand and I was wondering the difference. Is there a difference?
Thanks in advance!

Fuel setting should be only difference.

There's a lot of difference between an early D17 (DGFCL629-12A) pump to the later ones (DBGFC637-????). Post the numbers of the 2 pumps, and if I get time I'll tell the difference. The 12A is a non advance pump. The D19 pump should work on the 17 as long as you time it like the 19 requirement.

I have an early D17D with the non advance pump. It was it pretty bad shape, and Don told me that replacing it with a newer advance pump would make it smoke less so I found a buildable core from a D19 and had it rebuilt and set to D17 specs. Definitely less smoking with the fresh pump and injectors. I just stuck it in with the timing peg in the hole from when I pulled the original pump off, lined up the marks under the cover and it runs like a Swiss watch.
