I am thinking I will try to get away from the generic hydraulic transmission fluid for my 7000 with this change and use a better name brand. I am thinking about maybe using New Holland 134 fluid, has anyone used that before in an Allis? It seems to be one of the thicker hydraulic transmission fluids out there. Another one I was considering was Shell Donax TD, if I can find it. I don't have an AGCO dealer within driving distance any more, so that leaves PowerFluid 821XL out of the options. I also have a couple Deere dealers, so I could do Hygard. Right now I am running Traveller Premium Tractor transmission/hydraulic fluid, but it seems too thin for my liking. I have it in a Ford that seems to not like it either. The did come out with a new hydraulic/transmission oil (called ReNew), but it is the same viscocity, around a 10w20, which seems a little on the light side, especially for an older tractor with a powershift.

I really like the case IH hy-tran, but that's just my 2 cents worth. It's claim to fame is it's ability to soak up water that gets in the hydraulics from condensation and such.

We always use Mobil 424 and have had no problems.

The local distributor has Shell Donax TD, ConocoPhillips PowerTran, and Extreme hydraulic transmission fluids. The Shell is the priciest at $56 a bucket, the Conoco comes in at $41 and the Extreme at $36. I think I may go with the Conoco, as it's not much more than the generic no name, and since it's the actual brand's product, not some relabeled stuff, it ought to be pretty good (I'd hope they put their name on good stuff).

We have been through several pallets of the extreme brand, in both repair work in the shop and retail sales....so far so good....probably been through 10 pallets of it in last couple years. Of course we have customers that insist on the dealer products......got some NH Ambra for a 555 backhoe the other day....$68 a bucket...

I may go back with the Extreme next time I get fluid. I just forget which brands do well and which don't and then there's always the hassle of chasing down that one brand in some cases because dealers will quit stocking it. Now that I found an oil distributor that keeps the same stuff stocked and is about 15 minutes from home, I may give it a try. If the Conoco works well, I may just go for the 55 gallon drum for just under $400. I'll have to post results of the powershift valve cleaning, transmission brake replacement, and hydraulic oil/filter change if UPS will ever get here with my parts lol.
