Hello all! I can't express enough how useful this forum has been. I'm fixing up my Dad's 1956 WD45 that's been sitting in the barn for 30 years, and the information here has been extremely helpful. We've replaced the belts and hoses. Put new points and condenser in. Replaced plugs, wires, and distributor cap. Replaced generator cut off relay. Patched a hole in the oil bath air cleaner cup. Replaced temperature gauge. Found a used rear tire spin out rim in great shape for 20 bucks! We've got her running really nice!

I still have one issue though before we put her to work. The power steering (original) has hard spots in it and we've bought some Lucus Power steering stop leak. We don't have a leak, but it states that it will get rid of hard spots. I want to add it but don't want to over fill the reservoir, and maybe want to drain some of the fluid in there now to add more of this Lucus stop leak. Any recommendations on how to drain the reservoir and what the fill level should be?

Thanks!

If it's a narrow front end, I'd be thinking a bad pedestal bearing on the bottom and/or a power steering belt that needs to be snugged up a bit.

I was thinking that too, but I believe mine has a screen about an inch down below the fill cap? I never looked to see if it could be easily removed.
I think the level should be as high as the screen, not sure but think that would be a minimum.

I was thinking same thing as Dr Allis. Jack up the front end and see if you still have the hard spots.
Welcome to the Allis Forum!
