I think that this has been answered before but I have been unable to locate the posts. I'm the new owner of a D-14. It came for a fair price so I'm not complaing about some of the issues that I have found. At this time I have several questions. First I have discovered cracks between #1 and #2 and #3 and #4 cylinders. I am used to finding them on the B engines (usually between #1 and #2). I have not pulled the sleeves yet but the tractor was running when purchased and there was no anti-freeze in the oil. Are these a cause for concern?  Second when I pulled the valve train all four of the supports were split. Someone overtightened them in the past :(. Does anyone here have some used ones for sale? As I said, the tractor was purchased for very little cash and I knew that it would need some love so I'm not discouraged (yet :). We'll see if my courage is still good  after digging into the power director and transmission.  Thanks for any assistance. Jim

Jim, welcome aboard! You'll find lots of good information on here - bet you have answers to your questions soon! I need to get into the tranny on my D14 to replace 3rd gear parts - they're down in the shop in a box - but that sounds like a pretty big project to me! Good luck with yours.

Probably not a problem with the cracks. Only if the cracks run down into the lower web. With no antifreeze in the oil I doubt you have a problem there.

Rocker arm supports get ruined by people trying to torque the support down or loosen the support without backing of the valve adjustment. Getting rid of the pressure on the rockers before unbolting the towers will help greatly.

I had an issue with my supports breaking after i replaced them. Torqued them down to 10ft lbs, I guess it was too much as they broke. I had to replace them originally as a previous owner just used wire to hold the two halves together. I ended up getting steel replacements that were CNC'd from Normstoys. Well worth it if you ask me.

There is no problems with cracks at the top of the block - I have 2 like that.  The guy that rebuilt my engine called me before and said "I have bad news", I told him it was no problem!  It runs good so far!
