hd5 has not turned left for years and I lived with it-turning clutch probably frozen.Turned left fine, then last week while operating , the tractor suddenly would not turn left either. The fact that it happened suddenly leads me to believe that it is not frozen; perhaps a throw out bearing or broken bolt. Going down a slight incline with main clutch disengaged and the left turning clutch pulled back and the left braked pushed down resulted in continuing forward ill I bumped into a tree

removing the clutch cover and observing the action in that case is the start . It's a common problem it seems for fiber clutches to swell over time and either slip or fail to disengage if the case either gets water or oil into it from plugged 3/4" pipe thread hole in lower side of case - Seems mice also like the area and create problems within the confined area.

When we purchased our HD5, the clutches were frozen. The throw out bearings were in pieces. The lubrication system was originally designed to lubricate the bearings with transmission grease was plugged with sludge. One clutch pack had to be sawed out. It now has bi-metal clutches-(no fiber to swell up) and is lubricated with grease hoses directly to the throw out bearings. It works like a charm now.
