Two questions on the docket today:

1.) My disc has the older non grease-able bearing/flanges.  Can I simply drill and install a zerk into the flanges or is the old style bearing and sleeve (what appears to be the rubber mount pictured on page 15 of February 1975 publication) non-compatible to external greasing?  If not compatible of course I am looking at new flanges and bearings.

2.)  I will be replacing the front discs due to breakage and general wear.  Notched or smooth discs?  The disc will be mainly used for summer secondary tillage (after chisel plowing prior to alfalfa direct seeding), but could be occasionally used for cutting heavy trash in fall if I have an issue chisel plowing corn.

Notched blades last probably 50% life of smooth blades. They also break easier if you have ROCKS.

My vote is for smooth blades too!

They cut more!

I don't think your old flanges and sleeve will work with a grease fitting. You will need new grease-able  flanges and grease-able bearings if you can find them in that size.
