I just finished working on an a WD and I had to get a remanufactured carberator to replace the old one. The tractor ran great for a week or two then the carberator started leaking gas fiercely. It appears to be running out of every possibly location and the local shop wasn't able to provide much help over the phone. I'm not sure what could be causing this issue. The local shop told me that the remanufactured carbs typically stick but I didn't see much to suggest that it was sticking.

Sounds like the float is sticking in the down position which could be from the needle valve hanging up too. Usually have to take them apart to examine what is going on. could be dirt from the tank? Regards, Chris

probably dirt from the tank is keeping the needle from seating properly.....
a one inch stand-pipe made from copper,on top of the sediment bowl, into the tank should help keep the trash down. How nasty is that tank?

The tank is actually really clean other than a fuel funnel that was dropped in there. I have taken it apart and I don't see any signs of dirt. The needle sticking does seem logical but it has a rubber tip so I'm not sure how to change anything there.

If its not the needle it could be the seat. I think they have a small gasket type washer under the seat. I would make sure that's in place and that the seat is smooth and tight. If OK, look at the float and its function is free to move back up and push the needle valve back up into the seat. Check the float and make sure it does not have gas inside. A float with a hole can have the same effect, staying in the down position too. Some of these have a very small spring that allows the needle valve to travel up and down with the float. That's about all I can think of at the moment. We need some pictures too!:) Regards, Chris

Take a Q-tip put some metal polish on the end, put it in a drill and polish the needle valve seat with it. Also I have been told on the rubber tipped needles to put the needle in the seat and tap it to seat it to the seat. You can turn the carb upside down and blow into the gas inlet. If the needle is working you should not be able to blow any air into it. Turn it right side up and try again. Should be able to blow air into the carb.
