Hello all
Recently picked up my late grandfathers 720S that he dearly loved and I am proud to keep in the family and working.
Runs well cut grass 2x and on the 3rd time cutting engine quite and then a red wire that was connected to just the right side of the medal frame near the snow thrower PTO caught fire and broke off. I checked gas amount and after a few minutes it started and I put back in the garage.
Gas cap may need replacing as I investigate the venting issue last night but wonder what that wire is and why it burnt up. It goes and connects to a electronic board up near the inside ignition switch.

Hot wire must have rubbed the frame and grounded out. That’s my guess. Frame will be black from the spark where it made contact.

Would have to see a wiring diagram to see what it goes to.

Thanks for comments guys. Wire looks like it was attached to frame with black tape. Anyone know where I could find the wiring diagram? I have original Owners Manual but not in there.

OK my bad bigtime. It is a 712H not the 720. I think the wire was ground wire. replaced it and secured to frame as a ground. Started, ran for few secounds and cut off with the smell of burning electrical. Now will not even produce any sound of trying to start. What did I blow and how to diagnose? Also a wire diagram showing where it goes to the tractor would be nice. Anyone know were to download?

I'm surprised you can't find a wiring diagram on the internet. The wiring in a 716H is basically the same wiring if you don't find a 712H diagram. I'll havta' look in my wiring diagrams at the shop. I can to tell you what the red wire is and where it goes. I offer a harness for the 700 series GT's. If it was a 720, the red wire in the engine area is the oil pressure circuit on the Onan engine... mailto:Steve@B&B" rel="nofollow - Steve@B&B
