Got this yesterday not seized but don't know if it runs was stored inside for 20+ years old guy said it was on a lettuce harvester. Missing the generator and cap for the gas tank and the muffler. It's got the distillate tank and gas tank on it. How do I figure out what year it is?

I think I can see some numbers stamped behind the air cleaner, in your pecs. Look on the flange of the motor, area in question is sloped downward, at 45º, last inch of the motor casting, at the back end, left side, as viewed from operator's position, if it were a tractor. Looks like a B power unit...

Ok so I pressured washed all the gunk off of the unit. Found an aluminum plate stamped with Allis Chalmers Power Unit Model B-125 Serial number as best as I can see it is PU-87246 followed by a B. So if I just go by the numbers on that it is a 1947

Ok guys I found the serial number for the engine on the B125. It is as best as I can tell CE168259KA. So if I read that correctly it was built in 1951 and the KA means it is a kerosene engine. What does the CE mean?

I think CE means that it is a C Engine. The only difference is in how the HP was rated, at a higher RPM, to give the C engine about 2 more HP. If yours is a distillate (kerosene) engine, its not much more HP, than a B engine, due to a lower compression ratio... It is possible that an engine from a tractor was swapped into the power unit, at some time in the last 60+ years...

| DIY That's what I was able to find out too about the C engine. Just needed to confirm it. So that means it was off a C tractor but also a kerosene tractor. That is what was confusing me. Still pretty cool though. |

“CE” at the beginning of the engine serial number, means it left the factory as a 125 CID engine. ------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

| Ok here's another question. Look at the 3rd picture there is what looks like an electric oil pump next to the oil filter it has a wire running to the magneto and an oil tube out the bottom and another one out the side the bottom one goes to the bottom of the oil filter the one out the side goes back into the block? The top has what looks like an adjustment arrow on it. Never seen one of these on any of my other tractors. |
