I'm changing out the trans main shaft on my '49 A/C model C.  The main shaft splines have been destroyed, so I am also replacing the clutch shaft and sleeve with good used.
The issue I have is about the rear bearing assy on the trans main shaft ( part no.s  211699 and 211700 ).  Is the bearing race a press fit or should the race spin freely, being retained the snap ring?

On the replacement used shaft I got, the race appears to be a press fit.  It's frozen on the end of the shaft, no evidence of corrosion locking it on.  The shaft I'm removing from my C, the race spins freely, the snap ring holds it in place.

Don't know if I should just go with it or cut the race off the 'new' main shaft, and replace it with my existing race.

if you are talking about the inner race of a bearing, the race does NOT spin on the shaft..  the rollers spin on the RACE.. Inner and outer races should not "spin" as that would cause wear to the shaft or housing..

this is what i used years ago...

Top shaft bearing rear end in PTO housing

Bearing                        FAG                roller,  inner race on trans shaft     NU303

                                    1.850 x .669 ID (of inner race) x.551 wide

-------------
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Thanks for that info!  Saved me from making it worse.  The replacement trans main shaft is from a model C that is older, very minimal wear, not like mine at all.
I did not expect to see this when I took the torque tube off.  The shape of the wear pattern makes me think that it was jamming the clutch shaft into the back of the crank when the tractor was under load.
