We had a discussion not long back in construction equipment area about fire conditions in the Land of Fruits and Nuts,in Mels post    Rising from the ashes.

So with no further input from Mel,the chances of a "major" fire were Mel is are very low.

Depends just how much you want to worry, this whole state is just a spark away from disaster half the year. Then Santa Barbra went and burned in fall after a little rain.

I am looking out my window at hillside that has not burned in a  hundred years cause none of the old timer had any stories about stuff in my valley burning. All the chaparral brush has oily leaves to hold moisture in,but all burns extra good. But it needs the right day, grass has burned right up to it twice in the last 30 years and it never went up.But someday it will and once the brush is going just get out its way.

I think my house has better than 50% chance but depends how the wind is blowing because the brush burns so hot all kinds of stuff just starts burning before the fire itself is close.

There have been 2 little fires near me and it was just not right cause both were under 30 acres. They have not said but both started under power lines,so that is a good guess how they started. Currently all the fires in the news are 150 miles or farther from me.

Real smoky here on the hill today. They say it's smoke from the fire up near Yosemite Nat'l Park.  That's about 275 miles away from us.
