I guess I might as share some pictures from this project now that I have the biggest hold up solved. I picked up a 653 a few years back. It was cheap from a friend but the left steering clutch wouldn't engage. Fast forward to this spring, I finally got the motivation to get this project moving again because it's been parked in the barn and cannot be moved. So I reached out to the a forum member about having the steering clutches and brake bands rebuilt. I've figured out that sometimes it's best to have a professional do the work rather than do it myself all the time. I got both clutches out, found the left clutch had stripped plates. I got a parts case and had them shipped to Missouri about a month ago and I just picked them up from the freight terminal this morning.

I will say that the whole process was easy and I'm very happy I had Rick rebuild the clutches and brake bands. Dropping off and picking up at the freight terminal will save on the freight charges too. So don't hesitate to drop Rick a line if you have clutch work you need done on your dozer.
