the wc that i'm putting together is running rough. i've got a rebuilt marvel 464 carb on it. it will only run smooth when the choke is only about 1/3 open. when i open the choke wider, engine runs rough. i adjusted the power jet, helped a little. adjusting the timing with the mag also helps, but i'm at the end of adjustment with the mag, can't go any further. checked for intake manifold leaks, can't seem to find any. looking for ideas....alan

So it's hunting for gas.... Maybe still some dirt in the carb, or something obstructing the fuel flow to the carb?

Idle it down, open the choke, adjust the idle mix screw, then run it fast and adjust the power just, repeat a few times. you have to override the governor for the fine parts of these adjustments because it will compensate and hide changes otherwise. Or you watch the throttle arm and adjust for minimum throttle.
With a rebuilt carb, one wouldn't expect fuel path clogs in the carburetor or air leaks at the throttle shaft but they are possible. Check for good fuel flow with the float bowl drain plug removed. It should be the size of a pencil. Fuel lines that old can be nearly closed with varnish, as can the inlet adapter screen on the carburetor. Check the float level again.
