I just got home from the hospital and gosh I am plumb wore out,,, Long bout 2:40 this AM,,The wife woke me up to take her to the ER..She has had these bumps that look like a pimple but are not and she scratches em to the point that she had one of those on the underside of her right foot bout the size of a half dollar and bout 1/4" deep. I been trying to get her to go see the dr and made 4 different appointments for her which she would NOT keep,,so now we are to this point. They did an MRI to see what her bone conditions were. The Podiatrist had her in surgery for 1 1/2 hours cutting and scrapin the infected tissue away and get a bone sample for a culture. He told her if the bone is infected,,,she will most likely lose her foot,,,,,,CHIT,,!!! One positive thing is he said she beld a lot during the surgury,,which is a GOOD sign in spite of her diabetes. Maybe,,maybe,,,and here's hopin,,,,,

Joe, I'm hoping this all works out well for her (and you).  People sure can be stubborn at times, can't they?

I hauled a guy to the hospital last Tuesday, we met 50 years ago tomorrow, May first, on the bus taking us to Denver to be drafted into the Army.  After Basic at Ft. Bliss, Tx and AIT at Ford Ord, CA, we both got sent to Germany, thanks to the Russians invading Czechoslovakia.   Didn't see him for 5 years or so then ran into him on a construction job a couple blocks from the bus station we left from.  He worked with computers while in the service and now attempts to keep mine working.  Found out he had pressure on his brain and the Doc, who looked like he just graduated from High School, told him he was going to drill a couple holes in the top of his head and put in a couple tubes to drain.  Doc called to say everything went well.  I stopped in a couple times, he is getting better but they haven't figured out why it happened.  He lives by himself in the mountains so they are going to send him to a rehab place for a couple weeks to keep an eye on him.
This getting old thing isn't for weaklings!

Damned diabetes is a nasty disease,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I've not had any problems with mine for years,, found out about twenty years ago that I have it............
But about a month or month and a half ago my left leg started swelling from edema,,,,,,,, and then it started leaking. I wound up with about four spots about the size of a cigarette, and one about a half inch in diameter. Those grew to patches about as big a your thumb, and very nasty looking.
So I started with wound care last Friday,,,,,, will have sessions three times a week for four weeks.
So you might say that i'm in your wife's shoes and can emphasize with her!
I sincerely hope the healing is fast, painless and complete........

Gosh Guys,,,I'm so thankful for all the kind words. Today, started out a pretty good day as the wife woke up talkin bout goin home,,,then,,she started to become more and more pale lookin but then fell asleep right after eating lunch. I went home to get a bite when the Dr called me and told me I better get back down there ASAP as they were having an "incident". I hauled azz and when I get there they had moved her to a "safe" room that was full of nurses and Drs runnin this way and that. Her Dr pulled me over and said she had "bottomed out" and were on the verge of losing her. Her Blood Pressure was very LOW, and they had a Dr installing a "pic Line" in her neck in order to be able to inject larger amounts of antibiotics to try to control the infection in her bloodstream,,,!!!
Fellas,,,I was one scared person thinkin I was fixin to lose my partner of 50 years. She was so pale laying there totally inactive at all,,,,,,
After bout 20 minutes, she kinda snapped out of it and comes to and started talkin with the nurses as if nothing happened,,,,They quickly drew more blood samples and ran her labs for the kidney function. Her numbers were some better but decision was made to go ahead and fly her to Albuquerque soon as a room could be found and a helicopter arranged for.
I'm having to stay behind to get some housing for the 2 yorkies and I guess ole Hungry is gonna have to fend for hisself,,,,,Naw,,,ole Shameless would never let me hear the last of thet,,so, our Son, Jamie will tend to his groceries.
Soon as I get everything secured here,,I'm gonna head up there after lunch tomorrow. Wish us luck,,,,,,,,.

Many prayers. A Dr took my big toe and ball joint off my right foot because of infection. It was a long road to recovery ! Then 2 more toes got infected, one on each foot and I was told they would amputate both ! I said hold it ! Called an old country podiarist in small town USA and he got me in right that day. Looked at them and scheduled surgery next morning as an out patient ! Saved both of them and recovery was shorter than before !
Again ask lots of questions ! And pray a lot !
I will !

DJ, I woulda embellished on what that nurse had said... LOL
Glad to hear she's is doing better by the day, and that you got some rest.
Like Klinemar said, "growing old is not for the weak!" which reminds me of today, I was helping the nephew get his excavator batteries changed out and cable connection cleaned up at another fellows place... the fellow says, "boy I felt good when I was 40 years old, but it sure feels like hell when I got to be 45... an my nephew says to him, "yea, wait till your 50... It won't be as much fun then either"....  there was a few seconds of silence and I turned to them from tightening the batteries in an said, "wait till your a ways past 60..." and turned back to the batteries.shaking my head and laughin at them.

Hey Guys...well.wife has progressed as well as the Dr hoped....but the infection in the bone is keeping her body from healing like she should and the antibiotics not able to get ahead of the bone infection which in turn is holding up recovery of her kidney function.
The Bone Specialist and the Podiatrist will see her first thing Mon to determine if anything else can be tried to keep from having to amputate her foot. They have told us losing her foot is high probability.
She.s not out of the woods yet and after the Dr explained how the bone was keeping her from improving more...maybe taking that disiesed bone off will save her life.
We.ll know tomorrow. Many many THANKS for all your concerns and Prayers.

Well DR JUST LEFT ROOM AND WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT is trending up slowly which is not good.he told me amputation is scheduled for Tuesday.
She is aware of what is coming but has not commented any. Dr told her that her chances of recovery are much greater after amputation.Diabetes has just done too much damage to her foot.
I did ask bout the Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment and he says that is only effective when started early and. would not help her at this stage
Many. Many thanks MY FRIENDS. when i get to feelin low. I know i can come here and talk to people that really care.

Dang it Joe, that's not the best news.  But you be sure the Mrs. gets one thing perfectly clear: it ain't about leaving the hospital with a foot, it's about getting rid of the infection and getting healthy and happy, and a lousy diseased foot ain't got nothin' to do with that.  Work on that attitude.  If she can retain or regain a positive attitude about her life from here out, that's the most important thing.

Prayers and best of luck to you.

has she had her pancreas removed Joe? I think it's the pancreas...I knew a couple of folks that had theirs removed and it fixed all that, one had already had one of his legs below the knee removed and the other was pending, then they removed his pancreas and he gots better, then discovered that if they had done it sooner, he may not have had to have his lower leg/foot removed. big lawsuit on it right now. the other person had hers removed and she's on the mend now too, still hafta take a hand full of pills and eat differently, but able to keep all other body parts. ask about it. again...i'm not sure if it was the pancreas, if I remember right!

Reading this is like reliving the past - not in the same illness or procedures but the helpless feeling when a loved one is having medical problems and you can only be there but can't do anything about it .
A slow progression of any of these things and watching or living with someone as some disease or condition slowly changes another's life - and you are powerless to change of stop this .
Prayer helps yet it is for understanding and for relief part of which is for changing a outcome we know the results of will change both yours and another's life .

I sat and read a interview the wife had with a doctor the last time she was in the hospital - he asked many questions - and recorded her answers - it still moves me the courage another has when they know things they will not share or tell - even or because of that bond two people have - or is it one has for the other .

May all work out in ways you and wife can deal with - and with the Lord's help can face and enjoy tomorrows together in a way to be comfort to you both

DJ, I sure wasn't to Trump's rally, was to busy diggen an pounden clay yesterday... an stretchin up bawb-wire... Thet stuff that gots a bunch of pointers on it... an makes ye bleed if dug in to deep...

Them are butt cut electric poles about 11 foot long and are buried at about 5 1/2 foot depth.  Clay all the way down...and they're tamped hard around them.  And then stretching the fence for 1/8th mile to keep them 4 footed cudd chewin critters from being able to escape as a few did the other day. .... an this morning, the ring leaders were sure complaining... about like what the liberal clowns do these days. LOL
Hows that for changin the subject?  Yup, think ye are haven a bad day and then look around and see others are having a worse day than you can imagine... Makes one glad that he can still go and pound sand clay.. even if he has to use a skid loader to set that heavy post in..  because he's either gitten old an weak or tryin to work a little smarter.  LOL

Joe, yea there's them little fishies in thet creek... ah er river, that's the outlet, the inlet is the creek...  an there is a lake beyound them trees on the left side.  Gots a old aluminum row boat that we could set in them waters and go out and watch the fish just jump in the boat... well maybe needs a little bait an a fishen pole. ... and prolly need a license too to fish and if'n one don't wants to row, gotta buy a boat sticker and throw on the outboard and putter across them waters... sunnies pumpkins bass bluegills northern an bullheads, even a dogfish now an then are caught in the lake... mmm, use to go catchin red horse suckers in the creek by hand ...  Now ye got me to wonderin if they have already ran.
yea, life sure can change in a moment, sometimes for the good an sometimes for the bad.
If'n ye ever takes a little drive up here to wisconsin, I'll pull out the old boat... or get my nephew to bring his pontoon.  Gots a nice flat deck on that. Smile

Darrel, you plannin on hitch'n a ride with Shamers an ol'e DJ? I s'pose they could make a slight detour an picks ye up on their way...  Should be plenty of room on there, even for any loungers...  Nephew has done a grillen party out on the waters before... burgers, brauts, maybe even some Texas wild piggie an of course the fishies ye catch out there too...  LOL

Prolly even find a sandy shallow place to jump off and lay in the warm waters if ye comes in the middle of summer... but gots ta for-warn ye that theres govermunt agents in the water in some place... they attach them selves and start suckin your blood...easy ta git rid of them compared to them blood suckers in DC...Wink

Wadders and smelt nets... leave at 6 or 7pm and get home at 3 or 4 am... that was fun times but like everything, that changed too, the big ships brought in the lampre eel and they started eating up the little smelt and other fishies too.
This the Black Label yur bringin?  Prolly not.  LOL

Darrel, I haven't watched them wimen down on the lake for years, you might have to bring some good lookin ones to make sure ye got sumthun to see...

an we don't have to settle for this lake, we gots many within just miles... Big Wood Lake, Mud Hen Lake, Clam Lake, Spirit Lake, Dunhum Lake, Devil's Lake, Yellow Lake, Clear lake, Long Lake, Diamond Lake, Silver Lake, Sand Lake and Crooked Lake... LOL
and we can forgets about Fish lake cuzz I never heard anyone catchn any fish out of the meadows that the 'Do Nothing Right' fellers dammed up an flooded. Angry
