Here is a link to were you can buy a replacement float for your D series tractor. It's a neoprene float and isn't supposed to ever sink. Look way down toward the bottom of the page. It will cost you about $8 shipped to you.

Just remember - that synthetic float hasn't been in my D14 but a few days. I'll report on how it stands up now and then.
