Here lately I been noticing the skin on my old wore out hands is crackin pretty bad and lookin kinda scaly,,,The skin cracks and like around the joints it finally breaks open where it is pretty painful. I been using a lot of Neosporin but it too much for the meds,I think.
I been doin quite a bit of Shade Treein lately, which the oil and gasoline don't help any. I cannot use gloves so I don't wear em,,,Maybe I need some Hi power hand cleaner,,,??

Take vitamin D. My hands used to get just like what you're saying, but only in the winter time. Found out you get vitamin D from sunlight. What's a person short of in the winter time.....? SUNLIGHT! Started taking vitamin D during the winter months, and haven't had a lick of trouble since. Creams and ointments an all that stuff may fix em up, but take vitasmin D and you have the root of the problem fixed. Darrel

I have found Gold Bond lotion in the green bottle is the best thing for it, when my fingers start cracking like that.

X3 on the D and lotion. Put the lotion on before you start working on stuff and it helps tp keep the junk from getting into your skin and then some more after you clean your hands.

VITAMIN D is NUMBER 1,,,did I say 1 on the list.... And you CAN'T overdose on it either.
Then lotions,,,,,,MY favorite is Udder Balm.  It's the stuff dairy farmers always used on their cows in the winter time.  They would crack really bad and you'd get one or two that you couldn't even milk.  You can imagine how them udders would hurt....  It'd be like you left your bells hanging out in the winter....
SO, if udder balm is good enough for them women things,,,,,,,,,,,it's good enough for our hands...  I still use it and swear by it.  Grease and oil and gasoline, petroleum products are a mechanics nemesis in the winter time.

Get some and put it on liberally at night and put some socks over your hands to help keep the warmth in and let it work over night, you'll be amazed.

YES 'D'.... I found that out when I got 'atheletes foot' years ago....quacks meds did nothing but empty my wallet...sob......
sat outside with socks off,in t shirt in mid MARCH to have sun beam down on me as it felt goo. Next day I was walking aroun for 2-3 hours before I figured out I had NO pain in the feet. 2 days later pain came back THEN I remembered  I'd sat in the sun, bought D  that afternoon, take 3-5 every day from October to April. NO pain anymore !
Also get Vitamin E creme and apply to hands(yup, nurther trip to WallyWorld) , it'l repair your skin in 1-2-3 days. apply often, especially before bed. Open skin lets in bad germs and things....

Hey Joe, what soap are you using? I found that Dawn dish soap really dries out my hands, works good but can’t use it. I use the GOOP with pumice, no problems.

Move to Arkansas. I worked in your neighborhood a few years ago. Believe me we were getting plenty of sun shine and then some. I thought all my skin was gonna fall off. Soon as we got home it started to heal.
oh you can also use some bag balm and latex gloves all night while you sleep.  You'll wake up with hands soft amd smooth as as as anything you can imagine.

I wouldn't do that beings Vaseline is a petroleum product.  Probably better to use KY jelly!

Clay, I wasn't gonna mention the Vaseline (petroleum jelly) remedy, but since you brought it up.

The bottom of my feet will get to looking like Joe's hands in the winter.  This mani/pedicurist told the wife to use plain ole Vaseline on them.  So I started that once a day when I sock up in the am and by golly it works great.

Now for the plus up.  This winter I noticed that my fingers. especially the thumbs did not get those painful cracks in them.

The ole two birds with one stone deal.  Wink

Joe, very respectfully, if you keep everything covered up, you're not getting too much sun that way. During the winter months, I am outside for hours on end in sunlight, too, but still not getting enough sun because everything is covered up in the winter time. Next time the vampires take a little blood from you at the lab, ask em about your vitamin D level. And I am not sure why lack of vitamin D attacks the hands, but just because your hands are in the sunlight, that doesn't fix em. That's just what I've discovered from my years of experience. I'm not a Dr, but like the rest of em, I'm practicing. Darrel

Joe, YOU SHOULD NEVER let them git that bad!!!  Do I have ta take you out to the wood shed??!!
I wonder how well Neosporin would work?  Works GREAT for healing plain ole cuts fast.  I would bet it'd be a big +...
I'd bet you're REAL LOW on Vitamin D......  When my hands start to get like that, I take D supplements and fixes em right up.  I can tell cause my finger nails get real brittle and start to split and crack.  I can only remember once that I ever let mine get half as bad as yours.....that's gotta HURT!!

after they heal up, gits you some of that liquid gloves, you squirts it on and it dries to yer hands, when you are done it peels off along with the oil and junk..

Remember when we used those pull type plows? At the end of the field you had to pull that danged trip rope? My fingers would crack in the joints pitiful Mom would take wool yarn and tie it right in the joint and they would cure right up. The strongest cherry soap you can find cleans better and keeps your hands in better shape. Joe, when spring comes, I'll fix some stuff and send it to you. You'll have to be careful not to put it on too heavy or you'll start sprouting fingers every which way. But you can make some money with them. Just clip them off and dry them, and sell them as pocket nose picks.  Leon

Mule Head Brand original red hand cleaner is the best stuff I've ever seen for cleaning up oily, grease soaked hands. You can wash greasy parts in gas(not good plan) and have that all soaked into the cracks etc and this stuff gets them Sunday morning clean. I have never found anything that cleans this well. Got this at the truck shop parts store. You need water to finish.

I dunno Steve.  I used to use Oxydol (before they banned it) and udder balm.  CLEAN as a whistle and then creamy smooth.  And I was ALWAYS in gas and oil.  I spose maybe that's way my hands are so callused and ugly today....
Oxydol was some of the BEST.... cleaned everything from clothes (intended use) to greasy hands, greasy floors at the gas station,  just about everything you could think of.  ALL EXCEPT THE COFFEE POT!!  Ask me about that one sometime when you see me!!!  It's worth a good 2 minute laugh!!
